Yes! That’s Kevin! Doesn’t he look awesome?!

But 😅 this post isn’t about Kevin. Please, no one tell him.

See his tiny bovine friend beside him? That’s Reo! And she has a very special place in our hearts!

Reo lives over at Happy Dog Ranch and they could use some help from a 4H kiddo (or two!) this summer!

Reo needs to be halter-broke! It will be a fairly easy task as she’s super friendly, handled all the time, and pint-sized 😆

Any local 4Hers interested? ☘️

Reach out to Happy Dog Ranch!

Hello 4-Hers enrolled in the Poultry Project!

I just wanted to send out a quick reminder regarding Poultry ID Day. Poultry ID Day will be along the west side of the Multipurpose Barns on Saturday, June 14th. We will have A LOT of 4-H Events going on that day so please drive slow and drive all the way around the north side of the fairgrounds to avoid the horse show. The Llama/Alpaca Show will also being going on in the Pavilion that day as well. SLOW and CAUTIOUS around the fairgrounds is the goal on Saturday. Below is information I sent out before but are some good reminders:

Poultry ID Day

**Only show birds will be brought in for ID Day, Market Poultry do not need to attend, but someone must attend to be able to get leg bands for County Fair. It does not have to be the 4-H youth, it can be a family member, friend, club member, etc, but they do have to know what you are getting leg bands for (i.e. Broiler, Fryer, Bronze Hen, Bronze Tom, White Hen, White Tom...). If the time slots below do not work, please let me know what time works for you. If you have made other arrangements with any of the poultry superintendents, please also let me know so I can have things ready for pick-up.

Date: June 14, 2025

Location: Multipurpose Barns at the Douglas County Fairgrounds

Time Frames:

9-10:15 a.m. Clubs: Bighorn Sheep, Cherry Valley Ag, Cherry Valley Renegades
10:30-11:45 a.m. Clubs: Clover Clan, Cowboys, and DC Aggies
12:00-1:15 p.m. Clubs: DC Rabbitears, DC Wrangles, Franktown Farmers, Hoof Over Heels, Oakland Oks, Parker Barkers, and Running Rovers
1:30-2:45 p.m. Clubs: Ponderosa Pines, Sedalia Mountaineers, Sedalia Saddle Club, Sedalia Spurs, and The Rising Stars

I look forward to seeing your birds on Saturday!

Thank you,

Hello!

We are looking to place a bulk order of Market Chickens, Turkeys, and Ducks but wanted to gauge interest of 4-H members before moving forward. We would be looking to order cornish crosses, bronze and white turkeys, and peking ducks. We would only be able to order if we made the minimum order. The estimated costs would go down if we have a large order to place. We would be looking to have turkeys delivered around March 31st, chickens delivered around June 10th, Peking Ducks around March 17-25.

Broad Breasted (Bronze or white from either Murray McMurray or Meyer Hatchery) Straight Run would be about $13 per bird.

Cornish Cross Straight Run (with the option to have them vaccinated for Marek and Cocci vaccine) would be about $3 per bird

Peking Ducks Straight Run would be about $13 per bird

If you are interested please use this google form to indicate your interest and estimated bird number you'd like to order. https://forms.gle/tnBJPABTE1uNj9JL7

Also, you may have noticed an increase in egg demand and we have received inquiries in our office about 4-H members/families that might be interested in becoming entrepreneurs. If you would be interested in advertising for eggs, we would be happy to post a flyer on our bulletin. I'm also happy to discuss marketing ideas if you'd like!

Thank you for all you do, we're looking forward to seeing all your birds this year.
