🚒 Castle Rock Fire Deploys Crew to South Dakota 🔥

Four Castle Rock Fire members have deployed as part of a Type 6 engine strike team to assist with ongoing wildland fire operations in South Dakota. They are serving alongside four additional Colorado-based crews and one crew from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Our crew was initially assigned to the Buffalo Fire, which has since been successfully contained. They are now supporting Initial Attack (IA) severity operations throughout Stanley County, where several new wildfires have ignited in recent days. Their role is to quickly respond to new fire starts, helping stop small fires before they become large incidents.

The assignment is expected to last 14 days.

We’re proud to answer the call wherever we’re needed and grateful for the opportunity to support our neighboring states and partner agencies. Please join us in wishing our firefighters—and all those working on the fireline—a safe, successful deployment.

Hang in there brother Jarrod 😔 🔥 ♥️

UPDATE: This morning, West Metro crews were conducting high-angle rescue training in a steep, rocky area near Morrison, west of C-470, when Firefighter/Paramedic Jarrod Leonard fell approximately 50 feet.
Jarrod sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Jarrod has served the West Metro community for more than 23 years and is one of our technical rescue instructors, helping train firefighters in the specialized skills needed to perform rescues in some of the most challenging environments.
Jarrod remains in critical condition and is receiving ongoing treatment and evaluations.

Please take a moment to read this message from one of our own.

Cancer has touched our fire family in far too many ways—impacting both our members and the people they love. Firefighters face an increased risk of developing cancer due to the hazards of our profession, making this cause deeply personal to all of us.

Our brother, Firefighter Jason Fritch, is taking on an incredible challenge to help make a difference. This January, at 54 years old, Jason will run an astonishing 48.6 miles over four consecutive days during Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend to raise critical funds for the American Cancer Society.

Jason will complete a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Full Marathon—with the 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon all being his first official races at those distances.

In Jason’s words:

“There are numerous people from my past and present who have been impacted by a cancer diagnosis, with some of them ultimately losing their battle. I stand with them, with more than 18 million cancer survivors in the U.S. today, and with those who may one day hear the words, ‘You have cancer.’

I am honored to be a part of the American Cancer Society’s Team DetermiNation and would be incredibly grateful for your support. Together, we can help end cancer as we know it—for everyone.

To my family and friends who have fought, or continue to fight, cancer—including my fellow Castle Rock Fire Rescue firefighters and their loved ones—I run for you.”

💙 Here’s an opportunity to double your impact!

Now through July 31, Jason and his wife, Kathy, will personally match every donation, dollar for dollar, up to $2,500. That means your contribution will have twice the impact in supporting the American Cancer Society’s mission.

If you’re able, please consider supporting Jason’s incredible journey and this amazing cause.
