Ready to take your art outside?

We’re piloting a new addition to our monthly watercolor series, beginning with Plein Air 101 at Sandstone Ranch June 11th from 9-11am. Perfect for those who have some painting experience at home and are curious about working outdoors, but aren’t sure where to begin.

This 101-style session introduces the essentials of plein air painting in a supportive, low-pressure setting. You’ll get an overview of different outdoor painting setups, recommended supplies, and practical strategies to help you feel comfortable creating in the field. Sue, your guide on this new journey, will lead an equipment show-and-tell, share a live demo, and offer guidance on how to start your own plein air practice.

After the discussion, you’re invited to do some sketching or painting on your own. Bring a camp chair and your own supplies if you’d like to participate. This is a great chance to experiment, ask questions, and enjoy the landscape in a new way.

Whether you’re looking to expand your skills or simply experience the creative energy of painting outdoors, this gathering is a welcoming place to start. Register here or on our website: https://events.humanitix.com/plein-air-101

Climate change can feel overwhelming, but meaningful action starts close to home. 🌎 This World Environment Day, DLC joins the global call for a more sustainable future.

This year’s theme reminds us that climate action is about more than reducing emissions; it’s about restoring our relationship with the natural world and protecting the places that sustain us. We recognize that no single person can solve climate change alone, and meaningful progress depends on governments, businesses, nonprofits, and communities working together. But collective change is built from individual voices, everyday choices, and people who are willing to advocate for a healthier future.

Everyday actions can make a difference:
🚮 Pick up litter on the trail
🌳 Plant native trees and vegetation
🥕 Start a garden
🚴 Choose walking or biking when you can
🛍️ Be a conscious consumer
🍂 Compost (there are lots of local resources out there to help you get started!)
📣 Contact your local representatives to make your voice heard
🧺 Support your local farmer’s market
💙 Encourage others to make sustainable choices
🤝 Support local land conservation and cleanup efforts

At DLC, we work to build a more resilient climate every day by permanently conserving open spaces, wildlife corridors, and agricultural lands throughout the Central Front Range. Healthy lands help store carbon, protect water quality, and preserve biodiversity for future generations.

Exciting news for conservation in Colorado!

HB26-1230 was signed into law on June 1 to extend the conservation easement tax credit for five more years. This new law extends the current sunset date from December 31, 2031 to December 31, 2036, and unlocks $50 million annually in tax credits from 2032-2036. What does this mean? A landmark financial incentive for conservation easement donations endures; one that has allowed landowners to continue the legacy of family ranches, preserve scenic vistas and cultural heritage, and connect essential wildlife habitat across the state.

A massive thank you to the work of Keep It Colorado, bill sponsors Rep. Matthew Martinez, Rep. Elizabeth Velasco, Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer, and Sen. Dylan Roberts, as well as all of the supporters and champions who made the successful passage of HB26-1230 into law possible.

Hike the historic conserved Maytag Ranch before Under a Wild Sky!

Begin the Under the Wild Sky gala weekend with a guided pre-party hike across Maytag Ranch and neighboring properties, where guests can take in wide-open skies, wildflower-lined trails, and panoramic views of the area. The hike concludes at the Under a Wild Sky tent with opportunities to grab a refreshment, sign-up for a personalized photo, and begin making bids on your favorite auction items. There will be a limited number of spaces on each hike, so be sure to get your ticket when they go on sale July 1! Details about each hike will be included in event registration. There is no charge to attend this hike with purchase of a ticket.
