This beautiful Fox Snake was recently admitted after becoming entangled in garden netting.

While garden netting may seem harmless, snakes and other wildlife can easily become trapped, leading to severe injuries, circulation issues, dehydration, and even death if they aren't found in time.

Our team carefully removed the netting and is providing supportive care, but she isn't out of the woods yet. We're continuing to monitor the affected areas closely and are hopeful that time and treatment will help her recover.

This case serves as an important reminder to choose wildlife-safe gardening practices whenever possible. If you use netting in your garden, make sure it is kept taut, checked frequently, and removed when no longer needed.

Please keep this girl in your thoughts as she continues her recovery journey. 🐍💚

These tiny Belted Kingfishers came to us after their nest was disturbed during construction work. While their start in life may have been a little rocky, they're now safe in our care and receiving the specialized diet and care they need to grow.

Unlike many of our young songbird patients, kingfishers are fish-eating specialists. As they grow, they'll consume a surprising number of small fish each day, keeping our rehabilitation team very busy!

If you'd like to help support their care, monetary donations are always appreciated and help us provide food, medical care, and housing for patients just like these little fish-hunters.

Every donation, no matter the size, helps give wild babies a second chance. 💙🐟🐦

Wow… you all really came through for us. ❤️

When we put out the call for puppy pads and paper towels, we hoped for a little help. What we received was an overwhelming reminder of just how incredible this community is.

Every roll, every package, and every donation helps us provide the daily care our wildlife patients need while they recover and grow. These supplies may seem simple, but they are used every single day throughout our rehabilitation center and make a huge difference for the animals in our care.

From all of us at Back to the Wild, and on behalf of the countless patients who will benefit from your generosity, thank you. We truly couldn’t do this work without you. 🦉🦊🦅

They may not look like babies anymore, but who remembers these American Kestrels that have been with us since they were only a few days old?!

When young raptors are raised in human care, there is always a risk of imprinting, meaning, they begin to identify with humans rather than their own species. To help encourage natural kestrel behaviors, we’ve moved them into a pre-release enclosure alongside one of our ambassador American Kestrels.

While she can't teach them everything they’d learn from wild parents, having an adult kestrel nearby can help provide important social and behavioral cues as they continue preparing for life in the wild.

Watching them grow from tiny nestlings into strong, flighted young birds has been incredible, and we are hopeful they’ll soon be ready for their next chapter!

Whew… what a month! 🐾

These are just some of the wildlife patients that came through our doors in May. From orphaned babies to injured adults, our team was kept busy.

As baby season continues, we’re grateful for the support that makes our work possible.

Which patient from this months recap was your favorite?

‼ WE NEED YOUR HELP

Our wildlife patients go through a surprising amount of supplies every day, and we're currently running low on two essentials: paper towels and puppy pads!

These items help us keep enclosures clean, provide comfortable bedding for recovering animals, and maintain a sanitary environment for the hundreds of patients we care for each year.

If you'd like to help, donations can be dropped off at the center during business hours, or you can have them shipped directly to us through our amazon wishlist. Every roll and every pad makes a difference for the wildlife in our care!

Meet our ambassador Red Fox! 🦊

As a young kit, he was found and kept by his finder for a period of time before making his way to us. During that critical stage of development, he became imprinted on humans, meaning he never learned the natural behaviors he would need to survive in the wild.

While he can never be released, he now serves an important role as an ambassador; helping us educate visitors about wildlife, the challenges wildlife face when raised by people, and why wild animals belong in the wild.

His story helps remind us that even with the best intentions, keeping wildlife as pets can have lifelong consequences.
