In this edition of “Outlook on Leadership,” Dan Wyant talks with Jennifer Jurgens, CEO of 1 Bold Step.

“Even Batman had a butler,” says Jurgens, referring to the need for business leaders to delegate once they enter second stage.

But letting go is no cake walk: “This is especially true when things don’t go well and you want to step back in and fix it...” she says. “Yet that doesn’t serve anyone, it just means you’re back into the hustle.”

Among new landscaping projects at Big Rock Valley (BRV) is a fruit orchard located northeast of Anton House. Led by BRV landscapers Maggie Chapman and Cody Hoff, the orchard features apple, peach and crabapple trees, with a design inspired by Le Jardin Plume.

“We hope this will become another pondering spot for the foundation’s retreat guests, which is one reason we chose the location, which is easy to spot from the main road,” says Chapman.

A huge thank-you to all the teams that played in the Edward Lowe Invitational! Whether it was swinging for the longest drive or digging out of a sand trap, we appreciate all those who spent the day on the course with us.

We’d like to give a special shoutout to our partners at Louisiana Economic Development, Burton D. Morgan Foundation and Michigan Economic Development Corporation for making the trip! It’s a gift to work with organizations dedicated to supporting small businesses and second-stage entrepreneurs with such a high level of service.

In honor of National Donut Day, we’d like to give a shout-out to Groovy Donuts, who kindly sponsored breakfast at this week’s Edward Lowe Invitational!

As summer makes its way to Big Rock Valley, so did 10 entrepreneurs from Michigan, Louisiana, Florida and Texas for an Entrepreneur-in-Residence retreat!

Yesterday was the inaugural Edward Lowe Invitational — our first-ever golf outing. Today we’re feeling incredibly grateful to everyone who made this event possible!

We welcomed over 100 entrepreneurs, friends, partners, staff members and guests to Hawk Hollow Golf Course for a day of golf, community building and good, old-fashioned fun.
