As summer makes its way to Big Rock Valley, so did 10 entrepreneurs from Michigan, Louisiana, Florida and Texas for an Entrepreneur-in-Residence retreat!

Participants included John Williams of JCW Creative, Jim Gall of Right at Home, Michael LeBlanc of White Glove Interior Care, Ben Pauluhn of Optimus Energy Solutions, Jason Flanzbaum of Boca Bearing Company, Fred Gleeson and Laurel Crawford of Alamo Mechanical, Kelly Preston of Capital Steel & Wire Inc and Elsi and Eduardo Parra of Parra & Co. Yesterday was the inaugural Edward Lowe Invitational — our first-ever golf outing. Today we’re feeling incredibly grateful to everyone who made this event possible!

We welcomed over 100 entrepreneurs, friends, partners, staff members and guests to Hawk Hollow Golf Course for a day of golf, community building and good, old-fashioned fun.

Our property team hit the road to visit Beal Botanical Garden and the MSU Horticulture Gardens at Michigan State University (MSU)!

Attendees from the Edward Lowe Foundation included: Dan Wyant, Laken Stoliker, Chris Newton, Jarod Reibel, Cody Hoff, Maggie Chapman, Marissa Waldschmidt, Owen Rice and Mike Zeider.

At the Horticulture Gardens they were treated to a tour by Ron Perry, a professor emeritus in MSU’s department of horticulture, while collections manager Katie Fry led the team through Beal Gardens. Thank you for sharing your expertise, Ron and Katie!

Time at the gardens was also quite fruitful in terms of new ideas. “My heart was happy to hear about how it inspired coworkers to start their own small vineyards at home. We also have some new ideas for adding some additional small-scale fruit production to our modest orchard,” Chapman says. “It was a productive team-building day, and we learned a lot from the experts at MSU.”

Another week in Louisiana for our Michigan team! Foundation staff members Rita Phillips and Paul Bateson traveled south to launch the third annual innovation cohort, hosted in partnership with Louisiana Economic Development (LED).

Designed to accelerate growth for companies that are using new technologies, the program kicked off with a three-day retreat near Baton Rouge. Each of the companies involved are developing new products, services or ventures that will empower Louisiana’s economy and elevate innovative capabilities.

Attendees included: Patrick Coogan of Rapid Impact Erosion Control, Patrick Staunton of Westport Welding Innovations, Gabriel Fontenot of Hunt Repellent, Barret Blondeau of Falaya and Andrea Bacarisse of E2E Technology, LLC. Thank you for participating!
