STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION ADOPTS DANGEROUS NEW "HEALTH EDUCATION STANDARDS"

On Thursday, November 13, despite unprecedented public outcry opposing dangerous new “health” education standards, the State Board of Education adopted the revised 74-page guideline with a 6-2 vote. The new standards threaten parental rights and minors. Children will be taught about s*xual orientation, and educators will be asked to direct minors to “credible source of reproductive healthcare information” like Planned Parenthood.

That said, YOU and countless pro-life voices from across the state made a huge and important impact on the final language of the guidelines. After hundreds of pro-life emails and phone calls to the board decrying the potential of the new guidelines to facilitate teaching abortion to minors, the board made a clearer distinction between “health” education and “s*x” education. They also referenced the law, which prohibits teaching abortion as a method of family planning. Thank you for continuing to stand for life. It matters!

Going forward, it is imperative that vigilance is maintained at local school board meetings to ensure that parents have a voice in whether or not to adopt s*x education in their schools and to ensure the opt-out option is being properly implemented. Legislation to support restoration of robust parental protections is being considered and will need continued support. Updates will be forthcoming.
