Since the fall of Communism in 1992, Music Mission Kiev has served as a beacon of hope to those in Ukraine through sacred classical music. Our mission is to use the sacred classics to proclaim the Gospel to the country of Ukraine and the world. Over the last three decades, God has transformed Music Mission Kiev from a small Orchestra and Chorus to a dynamic evangelistic ministry that serves people

in Kyiv and reaches beyond the borders of Ukraine to other countries in the former Soviet Union. The Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus is composed of professional musicians, many of which are graduates from the world-renowned Tchaikovsky National Music Academy. These concerts are focused on evangelism with the unique opportunity to share the Gospel of Christ through the sacred classics. The Gospel lives and breathes in the powerful pieces of music we share. It is our great joy to proclaim its message of hope, peace, and salvation through our musicians to Ukraine, and the world. But music is just the beginning… There is great need in Ukraine. Government corruption enriched the powerful at the expense of the poor. Inflation made the fixed pensions of the elderly inadequate to cover basic living expenses. War in the east created a refugee crisis and devastated the economy. And now, COVID-19 has left the country struggling to find hope, wondering how they will survive. God has placed Music Mission Kiev among the many people in need of care: Widows in need of help and hope. Children longing for care and connection. Displaced and wounded people searching for shelter and healing. In response, we have developed outreach programs that serve body and soul, meeting physical needs and offering hope found only in Jesus. Paul’s Church is the center from which all our ministry flows. The congregation is made up of elderly widows and pensioners, children and orphans, broken families, victims of war, and many members of the Kyiv symphony orchestra and chorus. The church service is foundational to our biblical teaching from Pastor Ruslan and high-quality worship from the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. God is working in a powerful way through the ministry of Saint Paul's Church. Our people are serving in different roles in the church as they grow in their discipleship to Jesus Christ. They are actively inviting new friends to come and hear the Gospel message, sometimes for the first time. The Bible tells us that God places the lonely in families. We have seen this firsthand in our ministry to hundreds of widows and pensioners. These women and men become a part of the Music Mission Kiev family as we meet their physical needs—food, clothing, medicine, home repair—and provide spiritual nourishment and friendship through weekly Bible studies and discipleship classes. We also coordinate a sponsorship program to ensure their ongoing needs are met. Music has opened the door to ongoing relationships with a number of orphanages in Ukraine. Our team teaches music lessons, Bible lessons, holds summer camps, and regularly connects with children at several orphanages. For many, our ministry is their first exposure to the good news of God’s love. Years of foreign aggression and war have resulted in many wounded, homeless, and unemployed people in need of safe shelter and food. Our team collects and delivers relief supplies—everything from food and diapers to blankets and garden seeds—to the towns and villages most affected. Each delivery is accompanied by a Bible, fellowship, and the opportunity to talk about God’s love and care in the midst of suffering and hardship. Ukraine recently revealed 50% of children living near the eastern front now live below the poverty level. A Ministry Interrupted, but Not Defeated 🌟

In the Gazetta previous issue, we shared the story of Iryna and her faithful ministry in the frontline town of Druzhkivka. This Easter, tragedy struck when a Russian attack completely destroyed the church building that had served as both her place of ministry and her home for nearly four years.

By God's grace, Iryna survived. Reflecting on the event, she wrote back to our messages:

“Thanks be to God for everything. He led me out of that house in time.” For many years, this church was a place of worship, fellowship, prayer, and practical help for the local community. Through its doors, countless people found food, encouragement, and hope in God.

Sadly, this is not an isolated case. Throughout the war, many church buildings, houses of prayer, and ministry centers of various Christian denominations have been damaged or destroyed.

Iryna is now staying with a church in Zhovti Vody in another region of Ukraine while recovering from this loss. Music Mission Kiev continues to support her.

Please join us in praying for the countless people whose homes, churches, and communities have been devastated by this unjust war, and to stand with those who continue to bring hope and practical help to those in need.

Music: The Inner Anchor ⚓

In a time when Ukrainian reality oscillates daily between anxiety and hope, music has become more than art. It has become a way to endure.

For the women of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, music today is a space for inspiration, processing loss, supporting others, and speaking to the world in the language of art.

Each of them came to this ensemble by her own path, but they are united by a shared desire to create despite the war and not allow darkness to silence the voice of the heart.

Today, we put our focus on Nataliia Zhdanova.

Nataliia has been part of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for ten years. She is a graduate of the Kyiv Music Academy, where she studied vocal performance and bandura, and she is currently a singer in the National Operetta’s choir.

Her first concert with the KSOC was also a Christmas program. These performances remain some of her warmest memories, especially now, when the war prevents her from being close to her family.

Nataliia is originally from Nova Kakhovka, and her loved ones remain in occupied territory. She lives daily with the pain of distance, the loss of home, and the tragedy of the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam by Russian forces, which caused a massive disaster.

Despite everything, this ensemble has become her place of inner peace. Here, music allows her to feel lightness again and regain the ability to experience emotions that the war has gradually dulled.

She believes that art does not fully heal trauma, but it helps one endure and continue living.

Nataliia especially values the tradition of sacred music established by conductor Roger McMurrin. For her, this repertoire is a source of sincerity, truth, and inner strength that only God can give in such fullness.

“To anyone in the audience — both in Ukraine and on international tours,” she says, “I strive not to appeal through pity, but through the beauty of music and Ukrainian culture. It is important to me to show Ukrainians as they truly are: deep, strong-willed, radiant people who, even in the darkest times, do not lose love and hope. And God in all of this is near with each one of us here”.

A Requiem of Hope ☀

Music Mission Kiev once again invited everyone to the Central Baptist Church for an evening where the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and chorus, under the direction of Viktoriya K., offered listeners a special experience through music.

The music of this evening was complex, diverse, and held the audience’s attention until the very end. At the beginning of spring, after a difficult winter, this concert felt like a thaw; a symbol of renewal touching nature and man.

The program featured the Mass “Son of God” with a saxophone solo by Roman Fotuyma, as well as Howard Goodall’s work “Eternal Light: Requiem” with soloists Kateryna Myronets (soprano), Oleksandr Ponomarenko (tenor), and Mykola Porada (baritone).

These pieces, deeply rooted in biblical texts, revealed to listeners not only the theme of sorrow but also of hope.

A special moment was the video message from composer Howard Goodall, who emphasized that it was a great honor for him to know that his music is being performed for Ukrainians during this challenging time.

Traditionally, a Requiem is associated with remembering losses and tragic events. But on this evening, it sounded differently. It was a testimony of life overcoming death.

Paradoxically, one could listen to the Requiem with a sincere smile, feeling at the same time both the depth of tragedy and the power of God’s hope.

This was especially felt in texts inspired by the Book of Revelation, where, alongside dramatic images, a vision of God’s Kingdom is revealed, “where there will be no more tears or pain.”

Through music, through the unified and powerful sound of the choir, through the masterful orchestral accompaniment and the soloists’ performances, a realization opened up: even in the most challenging times, trusting God allows one to have that special peace that does not depend on circumstances.

This evening left a feeling of quiet joy and confidence: God is faithful to His promises. And that is why even a Requiem can sound as a proclamation of hope — for life that continues in God’s Kingdom.

A Voice That Continues To Sound 🗣

For the women of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, music today is a space for inspiration, processing loss, supporting others, and speaking to the world in the language of art.

Each of them came to this ensemble by her own path, but they are united by a shared desire to create despite the war and not allow darkness to silence the voice of the heart.

Today, we put our focus on Olena Fediuk.

Olena first heard about the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus while studying at the conservatory. Her colleagues spoke of it as a place with a special atmosphere and a very high musical standard. So when she was invited to audition, she agreed almost immediately.

By that time, the war had already changed her family’s life. Olena is originally from Kramatorsk , a city near the frontline. Her loved ones were forced to relocate to Kyiv due to danger. Yet even at a distance, her hometown remains a source of daily pain and anxiety.

In the choir, she unexpectedly discovered contemporary sacred music. Complex, emotional, capable of supporting a person in the darkest moments. It helps her find strength for artistic expression and to give audiences her very best.

For Ukrainian listeners, Olena seeks to be present through music. To support them, help them process loss, and remind them of hope.

For international audiences, her singing is a story of Ukrainians who, despite the war, continue to live, create, and remain humane. She wants the world to hear: Ukrainian voices do not fall silent.

💫 Creativity As An Art of Dialogue 🗣

For the women of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, music today is a space for inspiration, processing loss, supporting others, and speaking to the world in the language of art.

Each of them came to this ensemble by her own path, but they are united by a shared desire to create despite the war and not allow darkness to silence the voice of the heart.

Today, we put our focus on Valeriia Husak.

For Valeriia, creativity has long been more than an occupation. She works with children at a music school and a creative arts center. She helps young vocalists prepare performances and puts together concert programs.

After moving to Kyiv from Khmelnytskyi and graduating from the conservatory, she also worked with theater groups, which helped her see the stage as a space of living dialogue with people.

She joined the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus almost by chance. She came to replace a sick colleague, but later stayed in the choir permanently.

It was here, she says, that she first felt herself among equal professionals.

She was struck by the atmosphere of support, the absence of envy, and the genuine joy in each other’s success. Here she was able not only to grow as a singer but also to feel freedom to create.

Sacred music has long held a special place in her life. Having experience as a cantor in an Orthodox church, Valeriia gradually discovered that liturgical singing can be more than performance . And it is precisely in the repertoire of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus that she finds the depth she had long been searching for.

Her dream today is simple yet immense: to live in a world where no one prevents people from creating, singing, and being happy.

🌹 A warm spring evening within the walls of Kyiv Central Baptist Church became a true journey through the beauty of the created world.

That day, the concert of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus concluded with the words of conductor and artistic director Viktoriia K.:

“Today, together with you, we created a world.”

That is exactly how everyone who listened felt that evening about the monumental work CREATION by composer Dan Forrest, performed by the KSOC together with soloists Olena Fediuk and Yevhen Zamorskyi.

CREATION is an emotional musical story about the beauty of life, nature, and the origin of the world. The composer himself sought to convey the beauty of the Earth and the wonder of its creation through his own musical language.

The powerful sound of the orchestra, the masterful orchestration, and the rich polyphony of the choir carried listeners far beyond the concert hall.

“In the beginning, God…” — these words sounded not merely as a biblical text, but as the beginning of a personal story for every listener. Each person created their own world in their imagination, inspired by memories, poetry, films, or music.

Some mentally returned to the warm summer evenings of childhood, some saw Venice even if they had never been there, while others remembered the people and places beside which they had felt truly happy.

People who happened to pass by outside could hear the music through the open windows. Even there on the street, they stopped to listen to this extraordinary sound.

At a time when people live daily amid tension, haste, and anxiety, such artistic events become especially important. They return people to beauty and to the ability to feel. Music itself becomes a reminder that the soul needs inspiration as much as everyday life.

The finale of the concert became a moment of true unity. Following the composer’s idea, the choir began clapping out the rhythm, and the audience joined in. All the voices, all the emotions, and all the imagined worlds created by CREATION merged into one majestic picture, at the center of which was God.

From Power To Sound 🎶

For the women of the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, music today is a space for inspiration. For processing loss, for supporting others, and for speaking to the world in the language of art.

Each of them came to this ensemble by her own path, but they are united by a shared desire to create despite the war and not allow darkness to silence the voice of the heart.

Today, we put our focus on the story of Kateryna Mukha.

Kateryna's first program with the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus was Christmas 2022. It was then that sacred music — which she had previously treated as just another genre — suddenly became deeply personal for her. It became a source of support and inner grounding. In its texts and melodies, she found something that helped her endure the reality of war.

Kateryna grew up in Sumy, studied at specialized music institutions, sang in choirs, and toured across Ukraine and abroad. After moving to Kyiv, she searched for an ensemble where she could grow professionally and work with music of a high artistic standard.

She hesitated for a long time before joining the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, even though colleagues invited her. But after attending one of their concerts, she realized that this was where she wanted to be.

Her life carries many bright moments. Yet alongside this comes constant anxiety for her loved ones in frontline Sumy, the pain of her uncle who went missing, struggles with panic attacks, and the need for antidepressants.

It is this choir that has become a place where light slowly returns. Through music, heartfelt conversations over tea between rehearsals, and an inspiring repertoire that restores the strength to go on living.

She believes in music’s power to heal and to hold a person in the darkest of times. That is why she hopes every listener will sense this light, feel grounded, and regain faith.
