Happy New Year to Everyone!

Attention to Orders!

We are proud to announce that a new website is currently in development to better support and grow our ranks. This site will serve as a hub for:

Recruiting and increasing our numbers

Sharing information on upcoming events

Preserving and spreading knowledge of Civil War and other historical reenactments

Strengthening community and camaraderie

The website will also honor nearly 50 years of the 3rd Maine, Company F Reenactors, remember our fallen pards, and expand our outreach to ensure the continued future of our unit.

Within the website, members and visitors will be able to join or renew membership, view photographs spanning nearly five decades and multiple generations, access recommended sutlers (including several of our own) through provided links, and participate in forums where we can converse, educate, and share knowledge.

Last but not least, our unit was once the largest in Central Florida for many years. Over the last decade, our numbers have declined to approximately five soldiers active on the battlefield. We strive for authenticity, even though many camp modern due to age. We ask—not as a plea, but as a community—that you show up as you are. We will help provide uniforms and accoutrements as needed. As reenactors, we fail if we do not remember our history and bring to life the stories that must never perish nor be forgotten.

Please take this time to share with others who may be interested in joining us and carrying on the legacy.

Occupation of Palatka, FL

Dates: September 26-28, 2025

Information: The 15th Annual Occupation of Palatka Civil War Living History will be held in Palatka the last weekend of September, Sept. 26-28 (Friday through Sunday). The event will occur at the historic Bronson-Mulholland house in the north side historic district, Palatka. The event recalls the March 1864 occupation of Palatka by Union military forces, military activities in the area, and how civilian folks lived here during the War Between the States. This is a Living History event, with camp and display set-ups and demonstrations (including weapons firing). No battle or skirmish is re-enacted. Union Army, Navy, Marine, Engineer, and Medical, Confederate military and militia, and Civilian impressions are all needed and welcome. No cavalry due to space limitations and artillery is by invitation only. Friday, Sept. 26 is School Day, and attendance by local students is usually good. Saturday, Sept. 27 and Sunday, Sept. 28 are general open-to-the-public days. Participants are welcome to worship Sunday morning at historic St. Mark’s Episcopal Church next to the site and wear their impression. We are working on serving lunch to reenactors on Friday and Saturday and will have our popular reception for reenactors in the Bronson House Friday evening and a continental breakfast/tea late Sunday morning. The event runs 9 AM until 3 PM Friday and Saturday and 10 AM until 2 PM on Sunday. Reenactors are expected to be able to conduct presentations at their set-up through the weekend.
No fees for Reenactors. Period camping will be allowed on-site this year, including fires (we will try to provide wood, but bring some of your own). We will provide black powder rounds for musket fire demonstrations. Hotels are available nearby (contact the reenactor coordinator, Rob, for phone ). No modern camping on
site, but private campgrounds are available nearby. Restrooms will be available on and next to the site. You may arrive on Thursday, Sept. 25 to set up. 1st Sergeants Notes:
As I am here today as a proud member of the 3rd Maine, Company F Civil War reenactors, I can’t help but reflect on the legacy that brought us to this moment. My journey into reenacting began long before I donned my first uniform. My father was among those dedicated individuals who carried the banner of history in this company back in the 80s, and it was through his example that I first saw the true meaning of dedication and passion for the past.
We owe so much to those who came before us—those who instilled in us a love for this living history and ensured the memory of the Civil War soldier lives on. Individuals like Major Rick Shogren, Bill and Carol Weinhart, and 1st Sergeant Jan White weren’t just reenactors—they were educators, mentors, and torchbearers. They brought history alive with a fiery passion that inspired us when we were young and impressionable. They turned dusty pages of history books into something tangible, something we could feel and understand.
Their dedication to authenticity and storytelling has left an indelible mark on all of us. Their love for reenacting was infectious, and it’s that same love that continues to drive us forward today. They reminded us that reenacting isn’t just about battles and uniforms—it’s about preserving the stories, honoring the sacrifices, and sharing this history with future generations.
As we move forward, let us carry their spirit with us. Let us honor their memory by embodying the same passion and dedication they showed. Together, we can continue to breathe life into the history of the 3rd Maine and inspire those who come after us, just as they inspired us."
“Forward, always forward—for history, for honor, and for them.
