"Respectful dialogue is less about winning the “right” idea and more about regulating yourself well enough to hear another person." ~ Cherie Mclaughlin

Productive Dialogue Begins Before You Speak Contributed by Cherie Mclaughlin Productive dialogue—real conversation that doesn’t collapse the moment tension shows up—starts inside a person, not between two people. When we grow in self-awareness, we get better at noticing what we’re feeling, w...

For those transforming the world from the inside out…

Too often we are drawn into fear and anxiety by the latest headline shocker of the day. It narrows our focus to the moment in time and clouds our view of the bigger picture.

Here is a thought provoking essay by an insightful writer. I encourage you to read it and to contemplate where the current winds of time will take us ten, fifteen, twenty years from now and beyond.

How our nation's past shaped our present — and what could be next.

If you find it difficult to discuss political differences with friends and family, it's a good idea to start with some ground rules, such as: 1) Listen to understand, not to convince; 2) Assume good intent; and 3) Respect the dignity of each participant.

Be prepared to ask questions in non-confrontational terms, such as those in this article:

Whether it’s relief, disappointment, frustration, or hope, post-election feelings can make it harder to connect with people who see things differently. Elections magnify differences, turning them into headlines, soundbites, and battle lines. The focus on “winning” and “losing” can make it ...

Are you becoming more and more stressed over the of intolerance, incivility, and toxic conflict on your relationships? Well, here is some alarming news. It is also taking a toll on our pocketbooks.

SHRM’s latest Civility Index, released Aug. 7, finds that U.S. workers encountered more uncivil acts in their everyday lives in the past three months than they reported in May. Meanwhile, incivility in the workplace is costing employers a staggering amount of money in terms of lost productivity an...

🌍 Today is Global Dignity Day – a day reserved for honoring all that unites us. A reminder that dignity isn’t just a word, but the foundation for humanity.

Around the world, people are coming together to honor each other on this important day, and highlight the power of respect, empathy, and equality in building communities where everyone can thrive.

✨ Today, please take a moment to reflect on the 5 Global Dignity principles and ask yourself how you can actively contribute to creating spaces where dignity thrives.

We believe that every person:

1. Has the right to pursue their purpose and meaning in life, and to reach their full potential.

2. Deserves to live in societies that provide humane access to education, health, income and security.

3. Should have their life, identity and beliefs respected by others.

4. Has the responsibility to create the conditions for others to fulfill their potential, acting to strengthen the dignity of others, including the protection of the natural world and the environment.

5. Can put dignity in action by standing up against injustice, intolerance, and inequality.

Let’s challenge ourselves to elevate dignity every day, not just today. Together, we can build a future defined by kindness, equity, and opportunity for all.

Be a "whisperer of hope" in a "dark and desperate world".

Be a "whisperer of hope" in a "dark and desperate world".

“Here's to the bridge-builders,
the hand-holders, the light-bringers,
those extraordinary souls
wrapped in ordinary lives
who quietly weave threads of humanity
into an inhumane world.
They are the unsung heroes
in a world at war with itself.
They are the whisperers of hope
that peace is possible.
Look for them in this present darkness.
Light your candle with their flame.
And then go.
Build bridges. Hold hands.
Bring light to a dark
and desperate world.
Be the hero you’ve been looking for.”

This article makes a well-documented case that ordinary American people are not nearly as polarized as we think we are. The moral of the story? Get to know your neighbor as a person before judging their partisanship. You may be surprised at the similarity in core values.

The growing evidence that—even heading into this year’s election—Americans are less divided than you may think.

As we approach the 2024 elections in America, are you exhausted by the flood of solicitations from political candidates near and far? Are you appalled at how much we spend on party politics and campaigns in the UNITED States that only serve to tear us farther and farther apart? You may want to read this article before you write your next check.

It’s time to support people working to heal America rather than those driving us apart
