The mission of Camp Chippewa is to build character through adventure inspired by tradition. And though the opportunities for children today are remarkable, few can provide the kind of profound experience available at a sleep-away camp. At a time when we hope to give our kids the skills they need to succeed, we sometimes miss the forest for the trees. Camp Chippewa is a place to grow stronger physi

cally and emotionally, to find challenge and discover a new confidence, develop character with new adventures and have a blast with new friends. A wilderness setting since 1935, Camp Chippewa provides boys ages 7-17 the opportunity to learn, grow, and achieve mastery in skills and activities that are life-long endeavors. Boys advance in activities (archery, sailing, riflery, tennis, soccer, canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing, climbing and swimming) at their own pace and level of interest. Counselors and staff are mentors, big brothers, coaches, and teachers, inspiring boys to feel pride in who they are and what they do. Learning, achieving, and giving back to the community are goals for all. Chippewa’s unique enrollment of less than 80 boys each session is meant to allow all staff to get to know each camper on a personal level. By being in a technology-free wilderness surrounding, boys discover and develop skills through an intentional program. With a guiding hand from a well-trained and talented staff, boys forge character to manage adversity in their lives. Camp Chippewa strives to promote individual achievement and skill development by providing a unique outdoor educational experience. By focusing on life-long sports and activities, we have carefully developed a program that promotes emotional and physical growth, develops confidence and encourages friendships with fellow campers and counselors from around the globe. It is an exciting and fun program created by each camper within a well-developed camp structure. We believe that boyhood is a special time, and Camp Chippewa provides a rare opportunity to slow the pace of our daily routine, to escape the wired world to discover the wider world and to find true adventure in a wilderness not yet lost.

The pines are alive again. Staff training at Camp Chippewa is officially underway! We have been paddling on Cass Lake, honing lifeguard skills, learning from legends, and playing a little soccer along the way. Summer starts here. 🛶🌲

Meet this summer's staff... Andres!

Hello! My name is Andres, I just turned 25 years old and this will be my 13th summer at camp, my 6th on staff. I was born in Mexico City, grew up in Texas and will be heading next fall to Brazil to continue my studies, after spending the last two years in Barcelona, Spain. At camp you can find me running the riflery range, belaying at the climbing tower, or playing soccer at the Ivy Bowl. If I’m not there I’m very likely paddling the beautiful lakes and rivers of Canada. I cannot wait for camp to get started!

Meet this summer's staff... Alec!

Hello! This will be my 14th summer at camp. There is no better way to spend a summer than canoeing throughout the Northwoods and that’s where you’ll find me this summer! While in camp, I tend to be at the Range, trap shooting, or sailing.

During the offseason, I live in Los Angeles and will be starting a masters program at UCLA in the fall. I spend my time hiking, golfing, going to the movies, and cheering on the Kansas Jayhawks.

Meet this summer's staff... Drake!

My name is Drake Peden, and I'm currently living in South Carolina. While I will only be at camp for a couple weeks this summer, it will be my 7th year at camp. Outside of camp I am a sales rep for New Balance. I am looking forward to just being back at camp and teaching some archery while I'm there!

Meet this summer's staff... Phil!

Phil truly needs no introduction. The icon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa will be returning for his 51st summer at Camp Chippewa. Phil knows something about everything.

At camp, he will be teaching campers to sail, making sure everyone is greeted by a crackling fire in Knutson Hall's fireplace on chilly mornings, driving groups back to camp from their canoe trips (and possibly stopping at Dairy Queen), and parading the Sanders Cup Trophy before the World Cup Tournament.

Here's to the next 50 summers!
