FCMA was formed on Sept 16, 1988 by a handful of volunteers that were interested in Fort Caspar. The group’s by-laws and Articles of Incorporation indicate that they will provide volunteer and financial support to operations at the Fort Caspar Museum. We are an IRS recognized 501c3 non-profit. We hold a number of activities throughout the year to include the Lunch & Learn, Candlelight Christmas at

the fort, Caspar Collins Day, a Murder Mystery, etc. Recent projects have included the purchase of a cannon, upgrades to the fort’s electrical system, purchased living history and fort furnishings, and have assisted with funding traveling exhibits.

A few tickets are still available for our Ghost Tours this Friday and Saturday at the Fort Caspar Museum! Tickets are $15 for the one-hour tours of the fort grounds or the fort buildings.
This night vision video was captured during the overnight hours after our last tour this past Saturday night. You can hear the continuous tone of the REM Pod's temperature sensor detecting a temperature fluctuation, and then at around the 12:00 mark, you will see and hear the REM Pod's proximity sensor begin going off.
Come experience the paranormal activity yourself with a tour this week at the museum! Call the museum at 307-235-8462 or stop by to purchase tickets!

Stop by the Fort Caspar Museum and see our seven newly installed headstones for soldiers of the 6th Michigan Cavalry who died while in service here. Installation was just completed yesterday! We now have 33 headstones on the site honoring fallen soldiers, with about 30 more to go!

Exciting news! The seven headstones honoring fallen soldiers of the 6th Michigan Cavalry are starting to be installed today! We'll shortly have 33 headstones on site and have added 22 to the original 11 that were installed in the 1970s.

We could not have done this without the generous support of our Fort Caspar Museum Association members, Casper Monuments, the City of Casper, and all of our donors to this project. THANK YOU!

As fantastic as this news is, we're not done yet! In fact, we're just a little over halfway! The next regiments to be honored are two infantry units, the 6th US Infantry and the 1st Battalion 18th US Infantry. After these 9 soldiers are honored, the last remaining portion of the project will honor the rest of the 11th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry soldiers who did not receive headstones when this was first started in the 1970s.

If you'd like to learn more about this project that will culminate with a walking path, reflection bench, and interpretive signage for each regiment, you can visit: https://www.fortcaspar.org/cemetery

Join us this Saturday, August 16th, from 9am to noon and be an archaeologist. Dig and sift dirt to find pieces of Fort Caspar's past. Work with volunteers from the Wyoming Archaeological Society.

Things found during previous screening events include: metal and shell buttons; pieces of bullet cartridges and glass bottles; fragments of ceramic plates or cups; screws, bolts, and rivets from wagons; and metal from horse tack or saddles. (NOTE: All materials found will become the property of Fort Caspar Museum.)

Today marks the 160th anniversary of the Battle of Platte Bridge and the Battle of Red Buttes. Lt. Caspar Collins of the 11th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry was killed in the Battle of Platte Bridge leading to the town of Casper being named after him (although spelled differently). Over two dozen soldiers of the 11th Kansas Volunteer Cavalry also perished in these battles and we honored all those lost with a short ceremony at Fort Caspar today.
FCMA President Con Trumbull addressed the crowd and read a proclamation by Mayor Ray Pacheco, FCMA Vice President Johanna Wickman read the names of the soldiers lost in battle, and the Natrona County United Veterans Council provided military honors. We ask our fellow Casperites to take a moment to pause and reflect on the service and sacrifice that happened here 160 years ago today, and we thank all of those who attended our ceremony this morning.

Due to inclement weather with the oncoming storm, our vendors and activities are wrapping up early for the Caspar Collins Heritage Festival. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and came out today!
