Fall Fishing & Wild Weather

💧 GREY REEF FLOW: 498 CFS
Grey Reef continues to hold steady right around 500 CFS. Fall fishing is in full swing, with cooler water, good clarity, and plenty of opportunity throughout the system.

🎣 FISHING HIGHLIGHTS
Midges, fall BWOs, fall caddis, and Tricos are all still active, while streamer and nymph fishing continue to produce excellent results. The upper stretches below the dam are dealing with some floating grass, while conditions improve farther downstream and fishing has been particularly strong below Government Bridge. This is prime fall fishing season, but Saturday’s wind will be the big factor. Plan your presentation accordingly and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions as the weather system moves in Saturday night.

☀️ WEEKEND WEATHER
Saturday: Sunny and warm with a high near 79°F, but very windy. Southwest winds 22–28 mph with gusts potentially reaching 41 mph.
Saturday Night: Increasing clouds with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Breezy, low around 48°F.

Sunday: Much cooler and mostly cloudy with a high near 67°F. Showers likely, with thunderstorms possible later in the afternoon.
Sunday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, low around 44°F, with winds potentially gusting to 43 mph overnight.

Saturday brings the sunshine, Sunday brings the fall weather, and the Reef keeps fishing. Pack for changing conditions and enjoy October on the North Platte!

If you haven’t no time like the present

This is the real and accurate story about the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout in Pyramid Lake that was declared "extinct" in 1942. We will probably never know how their descendants made it into a couple of tiny creeks 400 miles away on the eastern slope of Pilot Peak in Utah. They were discovered in 1975 and "protected" by a reclusive rancher for about 30 years. They are back in Pyramid Lake. Read the story available on my website: https://creekman.com/articles
