Jim Jones
October 26th, 1921 - June 8th, 1994

When Jim founded the Troopers in Casper in 1957, he did it to give local kids the same opportunities he had growing up in drum corps. What started in Wyoming became one of the most influential organizations in the history of the activity.

Jim believed the Troopers belonged on the national stage. At a time when most corps stayed local, he put the Troopers on buses and took them across the country, thus creating the touring model that would eventually become the foundation of modern drum corps.

In 1971, Jim helped form the Midwest Combine alongside other legendary corps directors, helping create what would soon become Drum Corps International. He wasn’t just part of drum corps history, he helped write it.

The traditions, resilience, and spirit he built into the Troopers continue to live on every time the Long Blue Line takes the field.

“The Troopers, In name and appearance, are what America was. The young men and women under the Trooper banner are what America is.”
