Providing food bags to kids in need is important. The children who receive our help can arrive at school with a brain that isnโ€™t starving. Brains that are hungry donโ€™t learn well.

And kids who have a good education have a better chance of using that education to rise out of generational poverty.

But hunger is a deep systemic problem rooted in many areas of issue.

First, hunger is rooted in poverty.

Poverty is survival.

There is constant juggling of the largest priority and any small issue can waterfall into a huge problem.
One car breakdown can mean you lose your job.
Missing one payment can lead to losing housing. One health issue can become Medical Bankruptcy.
A snowstorm can keep you from accessing reliable food.

Solving hunger isnโ€™t just about one more food drive. Itโ€™s not about building a bigger food bank. Sure, a larger food bank can help move more food into the hands of people in need but itโ€™s not solving the larger issue.

But the real changes need to happen for the most basic of human rights: access to affordable food year-round for everyone which can lead to better nutrition which can lead to better health โ€“ both mental and physical health. Better health can lead to better mental health which leads to better self-esteem. Better self-esteem and self-worth means you can look at striving for upward mobility โ€“ not just survival.

We work every day to build a community where there is always enough for everyone.

Since our inception we have been working to change the local food system, for good.
We are working toward this goal by changing the way food is viewed and accessed in our community.

First, by providing food bags to children so that they have their own access to nutrition means their brains and bodies are fueled for learning.

Next, we plant gardens in areas that lack accessible food in order to give dignity and access to everyone.
Everyone deserves dignity.

Finally, through every action we take we strive to cultivate community. We want to create spaces that give dignity and encourage equity for everyone.

This is the very first time in our existence that this has happened

No food bags this week

School will only be virtual tomorrow so there won't be a way to get bags to kids.

EDIT- we are working with school staff to get bags to kids. They won't go without if we can help it. Thanks for everyone's inquiries. If you would like to help please reach out via messenger.

Please hold them in your hearts.
