On April 28, we observe Workers’ Memorial Day to honor and remember the workers who have lost their lives or suffered injuries and illnesses due to their jobs.

In remembering our fallen and injured workers, we draw inspiration from their sacrifices to work harder for the safety and welfare of all workers. We must never forget the lives forever impacted by occupational incidents, illnesses, and diseases. Each name on the memorial is a reminder that workplace safety isn’t optional, it’s a right.

Michael Cody Curry a utility lineman of IBEW local 702 was honored. Curry was killed in a helicopter crash along with the pilot when the aircraft clipped a power line and burst into flames over a barge on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River in West Alton on Aug 7, 2025.

District 9 will be Hosting a Bed Building Event for the 3rd year in a row at Sleep in Heavenly Peace in Alton

Dear Brothers, Sisters and Friends
Join us for the opportunity to improve a child’s comfort by teaming up with Sleep in Heavenly Peace by building beds for local children. The experienced volunteers at SHP will teach you the different stages of the construction process and then assign you to a station. Experiencing the buzz, energy, and excitement of dozens of volunteers throughout all the stations working side-by-side is super fun. And at the end of the event, what was once a giant pile of lumber is now components that SHP can use to get a local child off the floor and into a bed of their very own! Everyone is welcome, no wood working skills needed. Bring the kids as well.

This event will take place on June 13, 2026 at 9AM to 12PM in Alton, Illinois.

We are accepting donations for brand new twin sized sheet sets,
twin comforter/bed-in-a-bag and standard size pillows. bring them to the event if you are volunteering or drop them by the Local or District offices for collection.

We will also have opportunity to deliver the newly built beds.
There is a limited group size for deliveries. Please let us know if you’re interested in being part of the delivery team.

Commuity Service Committee Raffle Conclusion

The District 9 Commuity Service Committee wrapped up its raffle for a $500 gift card to Kenrick's Meats (a union butcher shop in St. Louis). One of our New Car Dealerships that the District represents donated the funds and wishes to be anonymous. Congratulations Sister Charlotte Whitt a Local 777's member and Recording/Secretary of the committee. "What??!! That's crazy. I did buy 3 tickets though....

REMINDER: IAM Local 777 Scholarship Committee Music Bingo is Saturday the 14th!
Tables of 8 are available for $200, or $25 per person.
Admission includes 10 rounds of Music Bingo with progressive cash prizes, beer, soda, and water, plus entry into an attendance prize drawing for a 2-night stay at Heartland Lodge (must be 21 to win). Additional raffles, 50/50, and games will be available.
To reserve a table or purchase admission, contact the Local 777 Office. Walk-ins will be accepted the day of the event.
