Fall Fest is October 17th but tomorrow is the last Fridays at the Fort market of the season!

If you are walking or driving through the Fort soon, you may notice many changes. One we would like to point out is that our Independence Tree has been replaced. We were sad to see the old tree go but the Norwegian Spruce became sick with Needle Cast and did not survive. It was planted in soil from Independence Hall on September 17, 1987, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the United States Constitution and stood for many years in honor of those who have fought for it.

This year, Ritchie Revival decided it was time to replace it with a Needle Cast-resistant tree. So, as of today, September 17, 2026, you can stop by to see our Canaan Fir, which now stands proudly on the old parade field

With the families permission, we are saddened to announce the passing of Bernie Lubran, the proud son of Ritchie Boy Walter Lubran. Bernie was not only a supporter of the Ritchie History Museum but also a true friend. He was president of the educational non-profit "Friends of Camp Ritchie," a program dedicated to preserving the history of Camp Ritchie and the stories of the soldiers who trained here during WWII. He also oversaw the Ritchie Boys of WWII for many years and was a driving force behind the push for the Congressional Gold Medal for the Ritchie Boys. He served as a point of contact for other Ritchie Boy families and took every opportunity to meet them. He was always willing to help whenever he could, and our Ritchie Boy community deeply feels his absence.

From our Director, Katy Self: "Bernie was the first member of a Ritchie Boy family that I met. He drove to the museum within my first two weeks on the job. He was eager to share his knowledge of the Ritchie Boys and to learn about our plans and how he could get involved. Over the past three years, he has become a good friend and someone I could turn to for help or advice. He always had a smile and a pleasant attitude, no matter what. He will be missed. Our hearts go out to his wife Fran and his daughters during this difficult time".

This is a reminder to please send us your RSVP if you plan to attend the upcoming Ritchie Boy Family Reunion at Historic Fort Ritchie. This two-day event brings families together to share and honor their loved ones' stories.

While an RSVP does not guarantee a ticket, it helps us immensely with our event planning. Official tickets will become available on the first of the year.

On this day, we remember the events of September 11th and hold in our hearts our fellow Americans most affected. It may have been 25 years, but many of us remember it as if it were yesterday.

We honor the families of those who lost their lives and acknowledge the mental and physical burdens carried by those who were present that day, including a couple of our veterans from Fort Ritchie. This date weighs heavily on our nation and will be remembered forever. Although it was a horrific and challenging time for New York City and our country, we came together and exemplified the definition of patriotism. Today, we unite in memory alongside the rest of our nation.

We want to thank National September 11 Memorial & Museum for all of their work to remember and honor the events of that day.
