Trail Maintenence (Update)

The May 2nd trail clearing of the aqua duct trail was completed. And the trail is open from the 44 rd to the 17 rd. The upper John’s trail was cleared of fallen trees as well.

There is still some snow in the higher elevation trails that will not allow us to clear them at this time. They are open to bike and hiking people. Not the groomer.

Saturday was a long 12 hour day that allowed us to get everything done in one day and not have to return on Sunday.

Thanks to Marshal W, Harold F, Mark H for there help cutting and moving the mini down the aqua duct trail. And to Charles & Dave Rogers for the use of their mini. It makes light work of those big trees.

It was a great day on the mountain. Looking forward to being on the snow in the winter.

Trail Maintenence!!

Columbia Gorge Power Sledders will be having a trail maintenance/clearing work party on May 2nd , May 3rd and May 9th. We need a good turn out to get the trees out of the trails that came down this winter season. There was no grooming done this season and no trees got cut or moved that fell during the winter. We will meet at Billy Bob snow park every day and then head out with our assignments. There is a good chance we may get an excavator to assist in moving trees and branches. Bring your cutting gear, leather gloves, lunch box, and water. If people are available, the week of May 10 then we will continue to clear trails. Let me know if you can and what days. It is very important we get this done so we get trail maintenance miles to meet are commitment to ODOT.

John Vogel Grooming Chairman

As we grow closer to the end of another season on the mountain, I want to extend my deepest thanks to every one of you. This winter tested us in ways we haven’t seen in a long time. The December windstorm brought down several trees across our trail system, leaving an overwhelming amount of cleanup in its wake. Yet our members showed up—saws in hand, ready to work—and turned what could have been a lost season into a testament of what this club is made of.

Your volunteer hours, your determination, and your willingness to step up at a moment’s notice made all the difference. Clearing those trails was no small task, and I’m incredibly proud of how our club came together to get it done.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature didn’t give us much help after that. With the lack of snow and rough trail conditions, grooming was limited and far from ideal. It wasn’t the riding season any of us hoped for, please show patience and understanding. Remember all the work getting done is volunteer.

We have a lot of work to do this summer before the fire season, to clear the trees from trails and roads we didn’t get to. OSSA needs all clubs to get trail maintenance miles this summer to meet the requirements of our ODOT contract. I’m asking all members to please help with this project.

Even in a tough year, this club proved once again that it’s built on community, resilience, and a shared love for the sport. I’m grateful for each of you—your time, your energy, and your commitment to keeping our trail system alive.

Thank you again for everything you do for the Columbia Gorge Power Sledders.

Sincerely,

John W. Vogel
