In fact, the Declaration of Independence itself makes clear that the God of the Bible loomed large in the minds of our Founding Fathers as they rebelled against the abuses of King George III.

The Declaration of Independence is not a long document, but God is referenced prominently four times.

The first time is in the first paragraph, in which the Continental Congress states that they were relying on “Nature and Nature’s God” in their quest for liberty.

The second paragraph’s first sentence then cites the central idea of the American republic—an idea in which God is the most important consideration.

Here is the sentence that every American child should know by heart:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

If the war on drugs is ever to succeed, its focus must move beyond the criminal suppliers to the broken users who sustain the market. Reducing demand is essential, and that responsibility extends far beyond government. Drug use is fueled by social breakdown — family instability, isolation, peer pressure, economic despair, glamorizing media, and weakened institutions — and most prominently, spiritual emptiness that leaves individuals without purpose and hope.

People without hope, purpose, a sense of identity, the freedom that comes from forgiveness, and a sense of God’s presence, which gives meaning to life, often turn to substances for escape. These social and spiritual deficits reinforce one another, meaning true recovery requires restoring relationships, addressing real-world pain, and confronting the spiritual void that leads people toward false comfort.

Failing to confront the demand side of the drug crisis will only escalate the costs — to families, communities, and the nation. The real battle is not merely on the seas but in the hearts, homes, and institutions that shape the character of our people.

Trump Shares The Gospel

The annual lighting of the National Christmas Tree took place last night in Washington, D.C. I hope you watched it. If not, I encourage you to do so. It was inspirational.

With each passing year that Donald Trump has been president of the United States, from his first term to now, he has become an increasingly bold and direct defender of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. More so than any president in our lifetimes, if not all of American history. This is what President Trump said last night on nationwide TV about the birth of Christ:

“During this holy season, Christians everywhere rejoice at the miracle in Bethlehem, more than 2,000 years ago, when the Son of God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, came down from heaven to be with us. Full of grace and truth, He brought the gift of God’s love into the world and the promise of salvation for every person and every nation.

“Tonight, this beautiful evergreen tree glows bright on the dark and cold winter night and reminds us of the words of the Gospel of John: ‘In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.’

“With the birth of Jesus, human history turned from night to day. His Word and His example call us to love one another, to serve one another, and to honor the sacred truth that every child is specially made in the image of God.”

“America has stood tall, in part, because millions of our citizens have heeded that call in their faith—and the service of Christians has been an essential part of America’s strength from the very, very beginning.”
