Well it's been a while since we posted on this page. We have been busy repairing the roof to train shed and remodeling the layout. Much more still needs to be done on the layout. However, on doing some re-organizing and getting rid of things we have not used in years we discovered a true "barn find" right under our noses.

What I was told some 25 years ago to be empty wood boxes actually had model railroad equipment in them. Here are a few photos on what we have discovered so far. We still have several more boxes to go through.

We have been busy changing out florescent lighting with LED lights in hopes to reduce electrical cost. We have also been working on raising money to fix the roof of the building.

I took a road trip this weekend to Patagonia, AZ to see their Depot and get some measurements. Met a guy who's wife was part of the Borree family from Coolidge and Florence (Arizona) area. The Borrees bought the Appel hardware/gas station (model I'm building) as the 1st Borree's Market. They bought the building after Appels moved the gas station into Coolidge.

It's been pretty windy these last two weekends to do any work on the train shed roof. So, last night I worked on the roof for a model. The prototype building was from the early 1920s. All they had for shingles at this period of time was single tab shingles. Three tabs shingles came out about a decade or so later.

I made the shingles from sandpaper painted a light gray, and then hand cut according to the appropriate size.

Well I was unable to do much with the roof this past weekend due to the rain. However, it did give me some quality time to clean off some storage shelves to provide additional floor space for future layout expansion.

I'll be busy re-roofing my train shed this month. It's been 27 years since the current roofing was done. It's a flat roof over a 3,000 sq. ft. building. The cheapest quote was $10,000. The materials are going to cost $2,000. So I guess I'll do it myself.

Been busy with building duplicate model. I'm currently build the trusses for the roof portion over the gas pumps. The prototype building was constructed in the very early 1920s. After much reach and talking with the local truss manufacture I'm building the trusses to that period of time.

I'm building a new work bench in the workshop. I was tired of trying to construct the models in the same place I cut the materials.

I will post more photos as progress with the project.

I bought this kit at a railroad swap meet yesterday in Glendale. My daughter, Jessica, does an outstanding job baking cakes and cupcakes so I'm going to change the name to Jessica's Bakery.
The new Jessica's Bakery.
