This is the power of cancer research. Sarah Citron is the co-founder and CEO of Bricoleur Vineyards. In 2023, at 32 years old, she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. What a day on the course. 🏌️

We were proud to be a part of teeing up the annual 'Golf For Victory Over Cancer' event in Raleigh, NC in memory of David "Crockett" Long, who was a founding member of the Jim Valvano Kids Klassic and served on the Executive Board as co-chair. Now in its fourth year, the event has raised more than $1M for pediatric cancer. That's moving the field forward!

It's bigger than the finish line, we're in the race for Victory Over Cancer. With Team V, every mile run and dollar raised funds the brightest minds in cancer research. We are proud to share that our Team V runners at the Chicago Marathon raised over $135K, with 100% of funds going to game-changing cancer research! 🏃‍♂️💨

It is with an immensely heavy heart that we share about the passing of Nick Valvano. Nick's impact on the V Foundation is immeasurable. He dedicated himself to making his brother's vision a reality, devoting his life to advancing our mission to fund groundbreaking cancer research to accelerate Victory Over Cancer.

Last year, he sat with our staff and told us what makes the V Foundation special. It’s the team. The people.

Nick served as our CEO from 1999 - 2012 and throughout his years of service, he helped guide us through important milestones while keeping Jim's vision at the center of our work.

He was a friend, mentor, storyteller, and guardian of the mission. He helped shape the organization we are today. Our hearts are with the Valvano family. ❤️

$720,000 raised for cancer research! What a night at Capital Epicurean.

Conversations for a Cure at Capital Epicurean brought together V Foundation Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Susanna Greer and two of our grantees, Dr. Jamie Spangler and Dr. Srinivasan Yegnasubramanian. Here are four takeaways:

✅ We believe in researchers first. The V Foundation invests early, before the biggest funders do, and world-class scientific leadership guides every funding decision.

✅ Validation fuels discovery. “The fact someone else believed made me even more motivated,” Dr. Spangler shared. Since her V Foundation grant, her lab has grown from 4 people to more than 30 and has earned 67 additional research grants.

✅ Engineering better medicines. Dr. Spangler’s lab redesigns proteins from nature to help the immune system target cancer more effectively.

✅ Reading cancer’s instruction manual. Dr. Yegnasubramanian’s lab studies how cancer hacks the epigenetic “bookmarks” that tell cells which DNA instructions to read. The goal is to find cancer earlier and match the right treatment to the right patient at the right time.
