Fit & Able Productions, Inc. Fit & Able Productions, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that supports community and family fitness by promoting and organizing creative events.

You might not believe it but “Fit & Able” goes way back to 1984 when Mike Wright Colopy created a cartoon short story about a husband (“Fit”) and wife (“Able”) who took control of their destinies and reclaimed their health. Those characters perfectly illustrated the Fit & Able philosophy. No matter how old you are or what shape you're in, it’s never too late to take control of the healthy life you

deserve. And, transformative journeys are always better when someone travels that road with you! Fit & Able really came to life in 1996 when the Wright Colopy family moved to Cary. That year the CDC released a report ranking states by youth obesity rate: North Carolina was dead last. Worried about the unhealthy environment she was introducing her own young kids, Travis and Glen, to Coach Alisa went into action. Combining her long background in public health programming and elite competitive racing, she set herself to getting kids and their families moving again. Coach Alisa knew that she couldn't turn things around for everyone across the entire state. But she believed that she could have a positive impact on her own local community. Even if it was just one kid at a time, she would help them take hold of the healthy lifestyle they needed. The earliest programs started while she working at the Cary Family YMCA as the youth fitness coordinator. These programs quickly grew into Team Fit & Able, a youth triathlon training team, and, as they say, the rest is history. For over 20 years Fit & Able has continued to build a healthier community one person at a time through organizing creative events and programs.

During the week he works as a Benefit-Risk Statistical Scientist. But no matter how long the workweek, Mike never skips a race. Rain or shine, he's out there.

Mike has been part of Fit & Able since before it even had the name. In fact, he's the reason it has the name at all. Years ago he created a cartoon about a couple named Fit and Able who, as he put it, "took control of their destinies and reclaimed their health." When Alisa started her fitness program, that little story is where the name came from.

Mike became our very first Team Fit & Able member back in 1982, and more than forty years later he's still an athlete, a supporter, and one of our most dedicated volunteers.

For Mike, the race starts the day before, measuring and marking the course and loading up the gear on the truck. On race morning he's there early to help set up the finish line, tents, and water stations.

Only once everything's ready does he find his post on the course, directing runners and cheering every finish. Afterward he rides the whole course again, making sure we leave the parks just as we found them: clean, beautiful, and free of debris.

We wouldn't be Fit & Able without him.
