We are active on our app--visit caryhomeschoolers.org to learn how you can join our group! Cary Homeschoolers is a welcoming, all-inclusive, secular homeschool support group based in Cary, NC. Membership is open to all homeschooling families in and around the Cary area. We do not require or endorse adherence to any particular belief system, educational method or philosophy. Our primary purpose is
to help our children develop and maintain social connections with other young people in the Cary area. Our member families meet in-person and use park days, game days, play dates, field trips and classes as tools to help encourage these relationships. Additionally, we hold regular gatherings for parents to help create a sense of community, as our secondary purpose is to share ideas about homeschooling and to act as a sounding board and source of support for homeschooling parents. CHS was started in January 2001 and grew rapidly. We have over 300 member families, with children ranging in age from newborn to 18. Members organize a number of activities throughout the year. Though the current activities available may vary, a few examples of those from the past include:
Field Trips (NC Zoo, post office, nuclear plant, fire station, NCSU, Oak Park Historic Site, Duke Primate Center, NC Museum of Life and Science, etc.) Group Activities (middle school book club, blueberry and strawberry picking, soap making, cheese making, Durham Bulls games, rock climbing, bowling, etc.) Classes (Crowder Park Wilderness classes and many other nature classes, NC Museum of Natural History, Hemlock Bluffs, art classes, etc.) Co-ops/Clubs (science, history, sewing, fairy tales, etc.) Parent Information Meetings (curriculum discussions, testing, learning styles, homeschooling special needs children, etc.) Our philosophy is if there’s something you’d like to see but it isn’t here, feel free to organize it or find someone who would like to help. If your child has an interest and you can’t find anyone with similar interests, organize a small event on that topic and see who shows up!
