We're counting down! This time next week we'll be hosting our annual fundraising gala at the Angus Barn in Raleigh. We are so excited to be partnering again with Old Hillside Bourbon Co. for this special batch of NCSCIA bourbon, available only at this event!

For a decade, wheelchair users on Medicare who wanted a titanium or carbon fiber frame have had to cover the entire cost themselves.

That's changing. On Sept. 30, the Senate passed the Choices for Increased Mobility Act (H.R. 1703). It cleared the House in July, and now it heads to the president's desk.

Once it becomes law, Medicare must create separate billing codes for carbon fiber and titanium frames by Jan. 1, 2028, so you pay only the difference for an ultralight frame. It costs taxpayers nothing.

This happened because of you. Advocates carried this bill into congressional offices at Roll on Capitol Hill, then kept the pressure on with messages to their senators.

Thank you to Sens. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., and Rep. John Joyce, R-Pa., for leading the way.

September is SCI Awareness Month, and we're skipping the statistics. Instead, we're asking the people who get it: What do you wish you knew when you were first injured?

The unglamorous stuff counts most. What did you waste time and money on? What health lesson did you learn the hard way? What was the difficult truth about bladders or insurance or friendships that nobody at rehab mentioned?

Drop your answer in the comments. Later this month, we're publishing a piece on what wheelchair users wish they'd known in year one, built from 30 years of New Mobility stories. Some of the best answers here may make it in. Include your name and injury level if you're comfortable, so we can credit you.

If you are affected by tornadoes, fires or heat waves this summer, we are here to help. To qualify for disaster relief from United Spinal, you must:

- Be a person with a spinal cord injury who has been affected by a natural disaster.
- Have a financial need.
- Be able to provide documentation of your disability and financial need.

This grant can cover the replacement of mobility and personal items that were damaged during a disaster, home repairs from storm damage, and temporary relocation reimbursement during and after a natural disaster.
