A dog who needed medical care.A dog who needed a safe place to land.A dog who needed patience, training, and love.A dog who simply needed someone to believe in them.

At our rescue, every Border Collie matters. From the newest arrival to the dog waiting a little longer for their forever family, each one deserves the care and support needed to thrive.

Your donations make that possible.
When you donate, you're not helping just one dog.
You're helping them all.

Ajax is a healthy and surprisingly energetic senior who still loves to play—especially fetch, which is his favorite thing. He has a gentle, affectionate personality and does well with dogs, cats, and kids.
He’s generally quiet (rarely barks, occasional howling) and settles well at home. He does have some anxiety with thunderstorms or loud noises, but overall is a very sweet, easy companion.
He would do best with someone who can give him regular exercise and attention—he still has plenty of energy and love to give.
Does the dog have any medical issues? No
Does the dog have any history of aggression such as growling, lunging, snapping or biting any adult or child? No
Does the dog have any history of aggression toward other animals? No
Reason for re-homing? We took Ajax in after a family situation, but with another dog in the home and upcoming housing changes, I’m unable to provide the level of care and attention he needs.

Ajax is located in Durham, NC. For more information, contact Madison at [email protected] or TEXT 405-435-1075. No calls.

Adoption Success Sunday!
"Lucy is so sweet she has many admirers- the neighbors, the folks at her daycare/kennel and really anyone she meets. When we’re out walking, if someone comes from the opposite direction, she will sometimes sit down and wait to see if they will come and pet her.
Her favorite toys include anything that squeaks, an occasional shoe if I’ve forgotten to put it out of her reach or her favorites are the ones I’ve put treats inside.
She is my alarm clock! Sunrise is her happy time. If she doesn’t succeed in getting me out of bed, I can hear her playing with her toys or the funniest one to me, is wrestling with her bed or the throw rug!
When she first came she was a little timid toward other dogs, people and new places. She still not a fan of loud noises and fire whether it’s a candle or fire in the fireplace. I take her once a week to a great daycare. This has helped a lot socially, and we are now finishing up with a Good Manners class which has helped us both. It’s fun and has helped us become closer learning tricks and how to communicate. " Lucy's adopter

ADOPTED: Kelly

S*x: Female
Age: 1.7 years
Coat: Black & White, rough
Weight: 41 lbs
Activity Level: Active Pet
Gets along with Children: Unknown
Gets along with Dogs: Good fit
Gets along with Cats: Unknown

Kelly has been living with her foster family for a few months and is now ready to begin looking for her forever home! She will be a wonderful companion and friend! Kelly is very gentle and loves to snuggle, be by your side, take long walks & hikes in the woods, run and play in wide open spaces and go wherever her people go! Kelly is very calm in the house and doesn’t get into any trouble, and is crate trained if needed while you are out. She takes treats gently, knows a few commands, goes to the door when wanting out, and will “Go Potty’ on command. Kelly walks well on a leash most of the time except if frightened or spots a squirrel, bunny, or other small animal. Unsure how she is with cats or kids since we have not seen her around them. As with many herding breeds, children in the home should be older (12 and up), well supervised, responsible and knowledgeable of herding breed dogs.
While in foster, Kelly has been fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, updated on vaccines and is current with Heartworm, Flea & Tick preventatives. She is Heartworm negative, but tested positive for tick borne infection(s) and has completed a full course of antibiotics. Going forward, adopters need to inform their vet and may need more detailed bloodwork with annual heartworm testing if their vet recommends it.
Kelly has made so much progress since CBCR volunteers worked together to free her from a full shelter on a holiday weekend, where she was an unclaimed stray. She is learning how to become a special girl in a safe, loving home. She has been on some outings for hiking, neighborhood walks and a trip to Pet Smart and has done well. She has been getting more used to car rides now that they end with fun hiking trips instead of visits to the vet! Although she is still a bit nervous and shy around new people and places, she has been willing to meet new people and explore new places. She is worried about some strange dogs, but we feel she will improve as time goes on and with more outings, exposure and slow introductions. She has done well with her foster dog siblings after taking things slowly with introductions, group walks, and outings. They play well together and have lots of fun! She is a puppy at heart and still learning dog manners. Kelly will need further training and confidence building with patient, positive training methods (no shock or prong collars). She needs a home with people that have time, experience, knowledge, and understanding of shy dogs that are beginning their new lives. Kelly will do best in a quieter home where people are home a lot and can spend time with her. Kelly loves to run and will do best with a fenced yard (no underground invisible fencing) or a safe place to be able to run in open spaces. She is not currently a good candidate for dog parks, but may be later after training and more socialization. She will need a home with medium activity where she will be loved as part of the family, have daily walks, an opportunity to run and play and experience new adventures.
If Kelly sounds like she may be a good fit for your home, please fill out an application through Carolina Border Collie Rescue CBCR https://www.cbcr.org/adopt/apply-to-adopt
Kelly is located in Fort Mill, SC.

S*x: Male
Age: 4 years
Coat: Black & White, rough
Weight: 50 lbs
Activity Level: Companion
Gets along with Children: Good fit
Gets along with Dogs: Good fit
Gets along with Cats: Unknown

Little Bear is a 4-year-old neutered, 50-pound, pure-bred border collie looking for his forever home.
Little Bear is social and extremely affectionate with people, old and young. We refer to him as a Velcro dog whose head would be perpetually attached to a leg or lap if allowed. He is a loyal, strong companion.
Bear’s ideal home would be a multi-acre spread with lots of trees, a home with a dog door, and possibly another dog to play with. He loves to run and chase squirrels or simply run, and to frolic with another dog.
Little Bear was recently discovered with a small cruciate tear in his right hind leg. Although he currently has no limp or pain, this condition sometimes warrants surgery.
Little Bear was taught early in life to protect his family from men in uniform, and we have not been successful at breaking him of this. We simply keep him locked in the back yard in the afternoons.
You would be a lucky household to incorporate Little Bear into. To look into his golden eyes is to melt with love. And to hear him talk in his deep growl to greet you, to tell you that he loves you, or to talk about his breakfast is to be enchanted by a prince in the forest. He is a strong and regal dog with layers of thick, wavy hair.
If you would like more information or an opportunity to meet Little Bear, please fill out an application and text Wendi at (919) 998-9125. Little Bear (nee, Boomer) is located in Durham, NC.
If you have submitted an adoption application to CBCR within the last three years and you have not moved, please contact the foster parent before submitting another application. The foster parent will let you know if another application is required.

In Progress: Maisie Lou

S*x: Female
Age: 1.5 years old (21 months)
Coat: Brown, Red, rough
Weight: 36lbs
Activity Level: Active
Gets along with Children: Good fit
Gets along with Dogs: Good fit
Gets along with Cats: Unknown

Maisie Lou is mostly Australian Shepherd. She was dumped with her bed and remained a stray for a couple of weeks before being trapped by animal control. She was underweight when she arrived but is now at a healthy weight. Even though she is almost two years old, she is very much still a young puppy at heart.
Maisie Lou loves adventures. Her favorite things are car rides, going to the park, playing fetch (but not for too long), her stuffed dog “Biscuit,” other toys, snuggle time, and her foster sibling. She has a moderate amount of energy but also settles easily and needs her morning and afternoon naps. She is treat-motivated. She learns best through consistency, routines, and structured protocols, but also does well with short one-on-one training sessions.
She is crate-trained but sleeps through the night in a regular dog bed. She settles in the crate easily when needed. Maisie Lou is a goofy, funny, wiggly girl who loves to “talk” to you with snorts, whines, and other adorable noises. She is housebroken and will let you know when she needs to go outside. She walks well on a leash and has recently graduated from a sidekick leash to working with a harness. She gets along with older children. She is not suited for children under 12. She also has a strong prey drive for squirrels, rabbits, and similar small animals.
After a little less than a week in our home, Maisie Lou began showing some reactivity toward anyone other than myself, including family members and visitors. It became clear that she had experienced trauma early in life. She was very skittish around loud noises, people in the kitchen, anyone carrying large items, and sudden movements, often hiding in closets or behind furniture.
Maisie Lou has made tremendous progress. With the assistance of a trainer, the implementation of structured protocols, and a thoughtful plan for introducing her to strangers, she has become much more comfortable in her environment. She has expanded her “safe space” to include all family members, friends, and even the pet sitter. She has improved so much that we have started taking her to the park, where she does not react to other people or dogs. She will self-crate when she feels uncomfortable or needs space, and she is learning to self-regulate her emotions and excitement. She continues to work on impulsivity, manners such as jumping, and basic commands.
Maisie Lou would need a family that is patient and willing to give her time to adjust to a new home while continuing to work with her on routines and protocols. She will likely need a few months to fully settle in. She would thrive in an active home that enjoys adventures and having her as a companion on them. She would prefer a home where someone is present during the day. She would probably do fine as an only dog but would prefer having another dog companion.
Maisie Lou needs a yard or access to another area often where she can run and play. She also requires a securely fenced yard. She will not be adopted into a home that uses any type of invisible fencing system or shock/stimulation collars.
She is currently being fostered in Denver, NC.

Applications open: Lucy
S*x: female
Coat: Black/white- short
Weight: 19 lbs
Activity Level: active
Gets along with children: Good fit
Gets along with dogs: Good fit
Gets along with cats: Good fit

Lucy is a sweet, gentle soul full of love, curiosity, and Border Collie energy. She is affectionate, playful, and eager to connect with her people. Lucy thrives with patience, consistency, and structure, and will do best in an active home that enjoys working with intelligent, energetic dogs.
She loves children, gets along well with other dogs and cats, and would especially benefit from a home with another confident dog who can help model routines and “dog skills.”
Lucy’s history prior to rescue is unknown. She was found running across a road and has been in foster care since mid-November. Since then, she has made remarkable improvements in both her health and behavior.
When Lucy arrived, she was not potty-trained. With consistency and routine, she has learned that outside is where she goes potty and rarely has accidents. She benefits from more frequent opportunities to go outside during the day. She stays dry most nights, but can “leak” overnight, so she sleeps on a potty blanket.
Lucy does best when crated while home alone. She experiences some anxiety when left loose and may have accidents or get into mischief, so a crate helps her feel safe and successful. A home where someone is around most of the day would be ideal as she continues to build confidence and independence.
Lucy is intelligent, observant, and sensitive — very typical of the Border Collie breed. She thrives with structured play that gives her both mental and physical outlets as well as time to sniff and run for fun. She has enjoyed learning nosework.
She can become overwhelmed by too much stimulation at once, but she is learning with gentle exposure and positive experiences. Continued socialization and basic training classes would be incredibly beneficial for her confidence and growth.
Lucy loves car rides and happily jumps in the car. A seatbelt or secure restraint is recommended, as she will roam otherwise.
Lucy has kidney damage from an unknown cause. The good news is that her most recent veterinary checkup showed significant improvement — two of her three kidney values are now back to normal. At this time, she does not require a special kidney-support diet, though ongoing monitoring will be important. Her lifespan may be shorter than average, but she is currently feeling good and continues to thrive.
Lucy will do best with someone who:
Has experience with or understanding of the Border Collie breed
Is patient, active, and enjoys training
Can provide structure, consistency, and calm leadership
Is home most of the day
Is willing to continue her training and routine veterinary care
She has no history of aggression toward people, children, or other animals.
Lucy is a deeply loving dog who has so much to give. She is still learning how the world works, and with the right guidance, she will be an incredibly loyal, joyful companion. She deserves a home that can meet her energy, honor her sensitivity, and celebrate her continued growth. We estimate Lucy is about 12-14 months old.
If you think you may be the right fit for Lucy, please reach out with questions. We would love to help her find the home she deserves.
She is about 19 pounds and approximately 12-16 months old. Foster is willing to drive her to the right home, so distance is not an obstacle.
Here is a link to her photos: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1UV8Z90RU7byN3zOnYdVnxHkKZAqowDKG?usp=sharing
Does the dog have any medical issues? No
Does the dog have any history of aggression, such as growling, lunging, snapping, or biting any adult or child? No
Does the dog have any history of aggression toward other animals? No
Reason for re-homing? Lucy was found running on the street. Although I would absolutely love to keep Lucy, I have to acknowledge that she likely will need more than I can currently give in terms of time and energy. She is full of love and deserves a home that can give her the same in return.
Lucy is located in Charleston, SC . For more information, contact Elizabeth at [email protected] or 715-218-4330.

This is Beans. He is a very loving and affectionate dog, and he’s been my best friend for 3 years. He likes to run around and play, and he loves to cuddle. He can walk on a leash and is housebroken and kennel trained. I don’t have young children and don’t know anyone with any, so he has not been around young children before. He lived with two other dogs in the first year I had him, and did well with them, but hasn’t been around dogs in the past year. He got along with my friend’s cat, too, but I’m not sure about just any cat. He is skittish at first, but has been the best thing in my life for the past 3 years, and I’m hoping someone can love him as much as I did. If you want to know anything else, feel free to message me
