Last week, we had the honor of welcoming Maggie Kane, founder and executive director of A Place at the Table, to the Cary MacGregor Downs Rotary Club.
A Place at the Table is Raleigh’s first pay-what-you-can café, founded on the belief that everyone deserves access to good food, community, and dignity, regardless of their ability to pay. Since its founding, the organization has served hundreds of thousands of pay-what-you-can meals, with more than 2,000 volunteers participating each year.
Thank you, Maggie, for sharing the story behind A Place at the Table and for bringing so much energy and passion to the work you do. It was inspiring to hear how a simple idea has grown into such an important resource for our community.
We were also privileged to present a check to The Green Chair Project, an incredible Wake County organization helping families turn houses into homes by providing essential furniture and household items.
The impact of Green Chair is remarkable. In 2025 alone, they provided essential furnishings to 1,142 households and cribs and beds to 1,364 children.
Two incredible organizations, two very different missions, and one common goal: helping our neighbors and making our community stronger.
