Ms. W has lived in her Raleigh home for 60 years! Now she can continue living there more safely and comfortably for years to come.

With support from the City of Raleigh - Government, we made critical repairs and updates including new windows and flooring, a new water heater, exterior repairs, a fully renovated kitchen, and accessibility improvements to the bathroom with a tub-to-shower conversion designed to support aging in place.

We’re honored to help longtime homeowners like Mrs. W preserve not just their homes, but the memories and independence that come with them. 💙🏡

When Mr. M first reached out for assistance with his home, it was because the lock on his front door no longer worked, leaving him feeling unsafe in the home he’s loved for more than 15 years. Living alone with his service dog Bailey after losing close family during COVID, he felt overwhelmed trying to maintain his home and hesitant to ask for help. Through Preserving Home and the City of Raleigh - Government , he received HVAC repair, weatherization, new exterior doors, improved lighting, and safer entryways.

What stood out most to Mr. M wasn’t just the repairs; it was the people. “When I wanted to give up, Preserving Home lit a candle that needed to be lit again,” he shared. He described every staff member, crew member, and subcontractor who entered his home as treating him with kindness, dignity, and respect. Today he says, “a weight has been lifted,” and he can fully enjoy his home again with Bailey in the city he loves.

Thank you to the City of Raleigh - Government, Duke Energy, and Central Pines Regional Council's program for helping make stories like Mr. Morgan’s possible.

For 21 years, Ms. Norma has proudly made her Cary house a home, inside and out. She even helped with its original construction, alongside volunteers and staff from Habitat for Humanity of Wake County. The experience inspired her to serve in South America, building homes for others.

In 2019, a series of surgeries left Ms. Norma with chronic pain and limited mobility, but she has remained active--caring for her granddaughters and staying connected at her local community center.

Ms. Norma first learned about Preserving Home through the Cary Senior Center, where staff helped her apply for assistance. At the time, her primary concerns were cracks in the ceiling and walls, running toilets, and leaking faucets.

During her home assessment, Ms. Norma shared other needs with our team. For example, her front porch steps had prevented her from using her motorized scooter. Our crew responded by installing a ramp and making other critical repairs such as plumbing upgrades, rebuilding her deck, patching and painting walls, and improving safety features throughout her home.

Today, Ms. Norma can finally use her scooter and safely come and go, even on difficult days. She expressed sincere gratitude for our team’s kindness, attention to detail, and the renewed comfort and peace of mind she now feels. As she put it, “I am so grateful for this blessing.”

Thanks to the Town of Cary, NC and the Duke Energy for making this work possible, ensuring Ms. Norma's home continues to support her for years to come.

Ms. B spent 20 years serving in the Wake County Public School System--a role she still misses because of the joy she found in working with children. For the past 15 years, she has called her Raleigh house home, cherishing not just the space, but the neighbors who look out for one another. Not too long ago, one neighbor even stopped by to check on her after noticing she hadn’t opened her door at her usual time. A simple but powerful reminder that community matters.

After the passing of her husband about a decade ago, Ms. B has done her best to keep up with her home on her own. We were honored to have the opportunity to come alongside her and make several repairs and improvements. Our team replaced her gutters, downspouts, and windows, and converted her tub into a safe, accessible shower with grab bars. As you can see, she’s ready to give it a try!

Thank you to City of Raleigh - Government and to Duke Energy for making this project possible, helping Ms. B maintain independence and peace of mind in the home she loves.

Some houses hold a lifetime of memories. For Mr. and Mrs. L, their Raleigh home is exactly that. Both Triangle-area natives, they have lived in their home for nearly 45 years, building a life and family there.

In recent years, daily routines have become more challenging. Mrs. L has ambulatory limitations, and Mr. L had been helping her safely into and out of the shower. We recently modified their bathroom to improve accessibility, allowing Mrs. L to shower independently. Other upgrades included new kitchen cabinets, counters, appliances, and HVAC.

Thanks to community partnerships like the City of Raleigh - Government and the Duke Energy , we can share stories like this as a reminder that aging in place isn't just about a house. It's about dignity, partnership, and the comfort of staying where life has unfolded for decades. 🏠💖

Ms. D has lived in her Garner home for 30 years. When her kitchen cabinets began falling apart, cracks appeared in the ceiling, and her bathroom and windows no longer met her needs, she knew it was time to make some changes.

Today, her kitchen is solid, refreshed, and built to last. Other repairs and accessibility modifications throughout her home are helping her remain safely and comfortably in the place she loves.

Thanks to Town of Garner, NC Government and Duke Energy for their continued partnership and commitment to home preservation.
