After more than 18 years in their Apex home, Mr. and Mrs. E—both in their seventies—needed some help keeping their home safe, healthy, and accessible.

Through our partnership with the Town of Apex Government, and with mold remediation support from , we remediated mold, encapsulated their crawlspace, and installed a dehumidifier to help control moisture and prevent future mold growth. We also replaced their water heater and renovated their bathroom, including converting the tub to a more accessible shower.

We’re grateful that the made this work possible, helping another local family age in place comfortably at home.

New windows can make a big difference! They keep a home more comfortable year-round, improve energy efficiency, prevent drafts, and reduce pests. Plus, they provide a clearer view!

We recently replaced these windows for a Carrboro homeowner with help from the Town of Carrboro, NC's program. This partnership helps homeowners receive important improvements to make their homes safer, more comfortable, and more efficient.

Mrs. R's home needed critical plumbing, electrical, and structural repairs. Although extensive water damage should have been covered by insurance, the deductible was more than she could afford.

Thanks to our partnership with the Town of Wake Forest, NC, we were able to make the repairs she needed, transforming her home into a safer, healthier place to live.

What's beneath the shingles matters just as much as the shingles themselves.

During this roof replacement, our team discovered damaged roof decking that had to be replaced before the new roofing could be installed. It's a reminder that quality home repairs often involve addressing issues that aren't visible from the outside.

By tackling both the obvious and the hidden problems, we help neighbors stay safe, dry, and in the homes they cherish. That's what is all about.

For more than 60 years, Janie's Cary home has been part of her family's story. It has been a place of comfort, cherished memories, and love.

When Janie contacted us in need of repairs, we were honored to help by installing handrails for her front steps, replacing her water heater, installing new energy-efficient windows, and updating the flooring in her kitchen and laundry areas.

Receiving Janie's heartfelt thank-you card made us smile. “Your team eases the minds of so many senior citizens,” she wrote, “most definitely including me!”

We're grateful to Duke Energy and to the Town of Cary, NC for partnering with us to make projects—and moments—like this possible!

Since moving into her Apex home nearly 30 years ago, Ms. M has welcomed family members through its doors whenever they needed a safe place to land and get back on their feet. Over the decades, her home has provided stability, comfort, and support for multiple generations.

Like many homes that have been well loved for years, though, it was starting to show its age.

Recently, Preserving Home was honored to help ensure Ms. M with repairs and modifications for safety, health, and accessibility. In partnership with the Town of Apex Government, we completed critical roofing, electrical, and weatherization improvements, along with accessibility upgrades including new vinyl plank flooring, safe exterior steps, and sturdy handrails.

These repairs do more than improve a house; they preserve a home filled with memories--one that continues to provide comfort, security, and independence for the people who call it home.

Thank you to the program for making this project possible and for investing in longtime Apex homeowners like Ms. M.

For Mrs. Y, staying comfortable in her 70-year-old home had become increasingly difficult. Drafty single-pane windows were driving up her energy bills—an especially heavy burden for someone on a limited income.

With support from Duke Energy and the Town of Garner, NC Government, we were able to help Mrs. Y with critical home repairs and energy-efficiency improvements that will help make her home safer, more comfortable, and more affordable for years to come.

"I am so thankful for these repairs," said Mrs. Y. "I am elderly with limited income and could not afford to have the repairs done myself. This organization is absolutely wonderful for what it did for me and the many other individuals it has helped in this community."

Stories like Mrs. Y's remind us why community partnerships matter. Together we're helping long-time homeowners preserve the places they call home.
