President Sherry couldn't be with us today because she was having cataract surgery. How cool is that, considering today's program focused on a Global Grant that will restore sight to 1,634 people in underserved communities in India!
The Rotary Club of Cary Central is proud to serve as the international sponsor of the global grant, Restoring Sight: Cataract Surgery for Underserved Communities, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Central Calcutta, India. This life-changing project will fully fund cataract surgeries for patients who otherwise may not have access to quality eye care. Beneficiaries are identified through outreach screening camps and vision centers and then referred to one of three participating eye hospitals where surgeries are performed by qualified ophthalmic surgeons.
In addition to identifying cataract patients, these hospitals diagnose and treat other eye conditions such as refractive errors, infections, allergies, redness, itching, and foreign body injuries. Through ongoing awareness campaigns, vision centers, and screening camps, they are bringing critical eye care to communities where access is often limited by distance and cost.
Best of all, no financial contribution is required from the beneficiaries. Every grant dollar will go directly toward restoring sight and improving quality of life for those in need.
What a fitting reminder today that cataract surgery can truly be life-changing. As we wish Sherry a smooth recovery, we're also celebrating a project that will restore the gift of sight to more than 1,600 people and create lasting impact for individuals, families, and communities.
