You know our name. Now, let’s talk about what we’re doing.

At Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc., we’re building on a legacy that began with seven remarkable women whose lives continue to inspire our work today.

But what does that look like in our communities?

We’re glad you asked!

Meet our PearlNitiatives™, seven programs that focus on education, health, leadership, financial knowledge, literacy, and opportunities for people of all ages.

Here’s a little about each one.

In Front of the Class
Teachers give so much of themselves. We want to give something back by recognizing educators, supporting classrooms, and helping future teachers prepare for the profession.

Heart to Lead
Our health matters. We’re encouraging women to ask questions, learn about health issues that affect their lives, and have conversations that can make a difference.

Pearls of Wisdom
Young people need encouragement, guidance, and opportunities to discover what they’re capable of. We’re developing resources to help them build confidence and make good decisions.

Pearl Prosperity
Credit, budgeting, saving, and planning for the future shouldn’t feel overwhelming. We want to make financial information easier to understand and put to use.

Pearl Pages
There’s something special about a good book and the person who wrote it. We’re creating opportunities to celebrate reading, connect with women authors, and encourage new voices.

Pearl Leadership Academy
You don’t need a title to be a leader. We’re helping people develop the skills and confidence to lead at work, at home, and in their communities.

Pearls in Motion
Sometimes all a child needs is an opportunity to try something new. Through movement and introductory track-and-field activities, we’re encouraging kids to get active, have fun, and build confidence.

And we’re just getting started.

Some of these programs are still taking shape, and others are preparing for new activities and partnerships. As they grow, we’ll share the opportunities, the people involved, and the difference we hope to make.

We also know that good programs need good partners. Whether you’re an educator, parent, professional, community organization, or someone who simply wants to help, there may be a place for you in this work.

💚 Mental Health Matters. Access for All.

Today, October 10, Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc. recognizes World Mental Health Day.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Through our Heart to Lead PearlNitiative™, inspired by Dr. Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, we encourage awareness, compassion, and access to support.

Sometimes, making a difference starts with a simple conversation, listening without judgment, or reminding someone they are not alone.

Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported.

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford. She was a dedicated educator, visionary leader and one of the Seven of '1922'. Her lifelong commitment to service and education continues to inspire us.

DAY 7- LEGACY THAT LEADS TO ACTION
Seven days ago, we asked you to get to know Hattie McDaniel.
Not just the Oscar.
Not just the famous role.
Not just the history-making moment.
Hattie.

We discovered an entertainer whose career stretched across music, stage, radio, film, and television. We learned about a woman who made history while living through segregation and discrimination. We saw her commitment to community, her service during World War II, and the barriers she challenged both on and off the screen. Yesterday, we shared the final chapter of her life and her experience with breast cancer.

So where does her story leave us today? With an opportunity to act. Through Heart to Lead, Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc. believes health awareness begins with conversations, reliable information, and encouraging the people we care about to take their health seriously.

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage women to learn about breast health, understand their personal risk factors, talk with qualified healthcare professionals about screening, and share reliable information with the women in their lives. Maybe Hattie’s story introduced you to something you didn’t know. Maybe it reminded you of a woman you love. Maybe it starts a conversation that otherwise would not have happened.

That matters.

For seven days, we remembered Hattie McDaniel for the life she lived, the history she made, and the doors she helped open. Today, we honor her by carrying something forward.

Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc. is proud to recognize Jennifer Arbogast as our October recipient of the Crowning Efforts with Success Award.

Jennifer has built a life and career around something simple but meaningful: people matter.

With more than 40 years in customer service and over 35 years of experience in finance, Jennifer brings both compassion and careful stewardship to her work. She understands that behind every number is a person, a family, a goal, or a future.

That same commitment extends into her community. For more than a decade, Jennifer volunteered with the YMCA Annual Campaign, including four years as Community Gifts Chair. Her efforts helped provide opportunities for local children to participate in after-school programs and summer camps, giving young people safe places to learn, grow, and belong.

Her service reflects the spirit of Crowning Efforts with Success: recognizing people whose everyday work and commitment make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Seven women. A lasting legacy.

The name, "Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc." honors the Seven of 1922, with each pearl representing one of these remarkable women and the lasting value of the legacy they left behind.

They were educators, leaders, mentors, professionals, and women who understood the importance of opening doors for others. Their lives reflected perseverance, education, leadership, service, and a commitment to creating opportunities for future generations.

Today, their stories continue to inspire our work. As an independent nonprofit organization, Seven Pearls Foundation looks for meaningful ways to carry those values forward through programs and initiatives that respond to the needs of today’s communities.

Seven women. Seven pearls. A legacy that continues to inspire.

DAY 6- HER FINAL CHAPTER
For five days, we’ve shared the Hattie McDaniel many people never had the opportunity to know. The performer. The Oscar winner. The radio star. The community advocate. The woman who opened doors and made history. Today, we come to a more personal part of her story.

In 1952, Hattie McDaniel was diagnosed with breast cancer. On October 26 of that year, she passed away at the age of 57.

Her life was much bigger than the illness that ended it, and that is important to us. We remember Hattie for how she lived, what she accomplished, the barriers she crossed, and the doors she helped open. But during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this part of her story also gives us an opportunity to talk about something that continues to affect women and families today.

That is why this Legacy in Seven feature is presented through Heart to Lead, a PearlNitiative™ of Seven Pearls Foundation, Inc. We believe learning about the past should sometimes move us to take better care of the present. Talk with the women you love. Learn about breast health. Ask questions. Know your personal risk factors and discuss appropriate screening with a qualified healthcare professional.

Tomorrow, on our final day, we’ll look at how remembering Hattie McDaniel can become something more than remembrance. Her story gives us another reason to have conversations that matter.
