“It took me far too long to find out I was just one phone call away from becoming independent and productive. I don’t want that happening to anyone else. Don’t let it happen to you.” – Bill Massey

After losing his vision due to glaucoma, Bill spent four years unable to use his laptop or smartphone, cut off from tools that connect us to the world. That changed in 2022 when he was referred to Low Vision Rehab Solutions for in-home occupational therapy.

Today, thanks to Medicare-covered services and the dedication of our therapists, Bill is using JAWS to write, revise, and edit. He’s confidently navigating his phone with VoiceOver, sending messages, and reclaiming his independence.

Bill is pictured wearing his Meta RayBan glasses too. His story is why we do what we do!

Meet a board member!!!

Bill Massey is a new board member who joined us recently and has been an amazing add to our team! He has glaucoma which led to legal blindness and has been living with low vision since the early 2000's. He brings a unique experience and perspective to our organization that has resulted in incredible ideas for how to make the community more aware of low vision and the impact it has on those affected. He is soon to be a co-chair for LVRSF and we can't wait to see what he thinks of next!

FUNDRAISER ALERT!!

Just in time for the holidays, LVRS Foundation is selling these spectacular t-shirts to not only fundraise for our community who needs low vision devices but bring awareness to vision impairment and why our organization is a pillar to supporting independence to those who live with a vision condition.

Another spotlight on helpful devices for our low vision community: talking blood glucose monitor!

This is a necessity for anyone with low vision and diabetes. In order to care for overall health, especially eye health, diabetes management is a huge part of lowering risk factors and maintaining a level of independence. A talking blood glucose monitor reads results out loud quickly and accurately, stores the data and most kits come with everything needed including test strips and alternate places to test from.

Highly recommend this assistive device and is a wonderful donation to our clients who could really use one!

LVRS has been able to donate OR cams to clients who really need it and their level of independence and quality of life has been through the roof. Clients are able to do things they haven’t been able to do, maybe for years, with the help of these donations and it’s truly giving them life back 🌟

Another shiny spotlight on a remarkable low vision device: the OrCam!

This wearable little camera attaches to the sides of your glasses to give you all kinds of information about what’s going on around you.

Their shining features include:
-ability to read menus, labels, books and any other text you show
-recognizes faces and tells you who is nearby
-identifies products through their barcodes
-“smart reading” feature to read only what you want it to read
-describe a scene to you so you can be oriented to your surroundings

The orcam is a great assistive tech piece that keeps our clients as independent as possible when trained in its use. It allows our clients to feel like they can interact with their world again and access everything they may need.

DONATION ALERT!

has given us the most amazing donation in the form of their used iPads to provide our clients with!!!!

Low Vision Rehab Solutions Foundation will be able to modify/adjust the iPads as needed for low vision use and can add needed applications, magnifiers and other accessibility options. This will benefit so many clients who don’t have access to needed technology and assistive devices that will allow them to complete activities such as read, shop, identify and organize.

Thank you so much to for this gracious donation and helping the low vision community out!! Assisting us to reach our mission of increasing independence to those with low vision!
