3 arrested on Death by Distribution charges for causing fentanyl fatality in Boone NC on 11/6/25

Update: sheriff deputies are sharing more details about their investigation.

BOONE, NC – On November 6, 2025, at approximately 5:20 AM, Watauga County Communications dispatched emergency personnel to a report of a cardiac arrest at 210 Eden Close in Boone, North Carolina. Watauga County Medics and Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the location. Upon arrival, emergency responders located Seth Treadway, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division initiated a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. An autopsy and toxicological analysis subsequently determined the cause of death to be a drug overdose involving Fentanyl and Co***ne.
Following an extensive joint investigation conducted by the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with the Boone Police Department, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, the Appalachian Regional Medical Center Police Department, the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, investigators identified three suspects connected to the fatal distribution:
• Shari Rogers Treadway (Boone, NC) – Charged with Death by Distribution by Delivery.
• Zachary Drew Treadway (Boone, NC) – Charged with Death by Distribution by Delivery.
• DeAndre M. McGee (Charlotte, NC) – Charged with Death by Distribution by Sale.
Warrants for all three individuals were formally issued on September 8, 2026.
All suspects have been taken into custody without incident:
• DeAndre M. McGee was arrested by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on September 8, 2026.
• Shari Rogers Treadway was arrested by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office on September 16, 2026.
• Zachary Drew Treadway was arrested by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department on September 17, 2026.
The investigation remains formally concluded, and the cases have been referred to the Watauga County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.


Boone- the sbi and police in Boone have charged a former nurse with embezzlement/diverting controlled substances from Watauga Medical Center where she worked. She is also charged with death by distribution. Shari Treadway was arrested yesterday in Alexander county. Court documents say she “had access to controlled substances by virtue of her employment as a nurse and did divert Adderall and Hydromorphone”. The date of the offense was 11/06/2025. The arrest warrants say on that same date she did deliver fentanyl and co***ne to Seth Treadway and the ingestion of that controlled substance proximately caused his death. She is locked up without bond tonight in Taylorsville. Watch channel 9 for updates on this developing story.
