Tomorrow is the last day to apply for the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Grant Program. With $60 million available nationwide, this program supports expanding local processing capacity, strengthening the beef industry, and opening new market opportunities. Eligible Texas facilities that primarily process cattle can apply for funding to purchase equipment or expand operations.

Apply before it's too late. Applications are open until August 7, 2026.

Attaining a USDA or Cooperative Interstate Shipment Program Grant of Inspection (GOI) opens valuable new opportunities for smaller meat and poultry processors to market their products, but the process of obtaining that GOI can often seem daunting.

A one-hour online roundtable hosted by Flower Hill Institute at Noon MDT, Wednesday, August 12th, will provide useful tips for navigating the application and approval process.

Joining Flower Hill Regional Directors Chris Roper and Dave Carter for the one-hour conversation will be Robert Bane, deputy administrator for field operations for USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS); Danielle Carillo, co-owner of Clark’s Custom Meat Co. in St. Joseph, MO; and Mark Siderius, president of Glacier Meat Processing Cooperative in Kalispell, MT.

Robert will review the steps required and the resources available from FSIS as processors prepare to submit an application for a Grant of Inspection. Danielle recently completed the process to obtain approval as a CIS processor, and Mark guided Glacier Meat Processing Cooperative through the steps to obtain USDA inspection.
