The purpose of the American Baptist Men (ABMen) Disaster Relief Ministry is to SERVE people affected by local, state, and federally declared disasters through a core ministry of post-disaster home and property cleanup.
Core Mission and Purpose
• Demonstrate Christian Compassion: Fulfill a Christian mission by showing the compassion of Christ and a ministry of wholeness, renewal, and hope.
• Post-Disaster Cleanup: Provide volunteer-driven labor specializing in clearing storm-damaged possessions, removing wet sheetrock, paneling, insulation, and floor coverings so homes can dry out and rebuilding can start.
• Debris and Hazard Removal: Clear fallen trees, windblown debris, mud, and standing water from affected properties.
• Short-Term Deployment: Mobilize volunteer teams and emergency response trailers—often arriving on the scene within 48 hours of a federal disaster declaration—to assist for short-term response periods (typically up to eight weeks, normally within one state. Each state has their own group ).
• Collaborative Support: Work cooperatively with American Baptist Churches (ABC) regions, the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Church World Service (CWS).
