Teacher Spotlight: Bryant Goolsby

This is Bryant's second year at GHS where he teaches Business Management and is in the process of starting a FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Chapter.

Bryant graduated from Smith County High School in 2018. That year he was chosen as Mr. Baseball for the AA Class. He continued his baseball career as a walk-on at Trevecca Nazarene University where he graduated in 2023 with his Masters in Business Administration.

Before coming to Gordonsville High School Mr. Goolsby worked in sales at Hit After Hit and later in insurance at Powell and Meadows. Now, he brings those real-world experience to the classroom to help students learn valuable business and life skills

In addition to teaching, Bryant stays busy coaching baseball and football for the Gordonsville Tigers. He enjoys making connections with his students and seeing their creativity come out in the classroom. Coach Goolsby’s goal is to prepare his students for the real world while laying a strong foundation and understanding in business.

Bryant married Trinity in June of 2025. “Mrs. G” is a native of Gordonsville and returned to Gordonville High School this year to teach ELA. In his spare time Coach Goolsby enjoys golfing and watching his niece and nephews play ball.

Gordonsville High School is lucky to have Coach Goolsby who brings a positive attitude, great energy, and dedication to making a difference for our students every day.

In addition to sharing great things that our students are learning and doing in our CTE Programs, we would also like to spotlight our CTE teachers that are teaching and leading our students on a daily basis.

Teacher Spotlight: Kaylee DeGraffenreid

This is Kaylee’s 4th year at Smith County High School. She teaches Dietetics & Nutrition, Human & Social Sciences, and is the Advisor for the FCCLA Chapter.

Kaylee is a 2019 graduate from Macon County High School. She continued her education at Tennessee Tech University where she first earned her Bachelors in Human Ecology with a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2022 followed by her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus of Family and Consumer Science in 2024.

Prior to teaching Kaylee worked as a dietary aid in an assisted living facility, the Macon County UT Extension Program to provide nutrition education to 2nd/3rd graders, and completed work in a rural community in East Tennessee to improve their backpack program.

She first thought she wanted to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. As she completed her coursework, she realized she did not really enjoy that line of work and said, “I decided then that I wanted to teach nutrition to younger generations and instill a love for food and nutrition in the way that my high school nutrition teacher did for me.”

Her main goal for her students is once they have completed courses in her program of study that they would have the knowledge to become a productive member of society who can care for themselves in the areas of finance, nutrition, cleanliness and parenting.

Kaylee was married earlier this year in April to Cooper. They enjoy traveling, seeing new sights, and gaining new experiences when he has preaching assignments out of the state. She also enjoys cooking and making monthly meal plans to ensure they have a nutritious and delicious meal each night.

We are so glad to have Mrs. DeGraffenreid as part of our CTE team, and look forward to seeing what she and her current/future students accomplish!

These students are well on their way of building a great foundation for their future! Being exposed to this knowledge in high school is a huge advantage for those with post secondary plans in the medical field.
