The Friends of Cordell Hull Lake were proud to support this year’s annual Trail Day! 🥾🚲

It was great to see such a strong turnout of volunteers working together to complete maintenance on the Bear Wheels Mountain Bike Trail.
And host hikers with a ranger led experience on the Bear Waller Gap.

We were happy to sponsor the shuttle and provide lunch for participants—it’s a small way to say thank you to those who give their time to care for these beautiful public lands.

Keep a look out and share this planet with nature. 🐍❤️

Rangers encountered this beautiful Timber Rattlesnake yesterday while marking boundary line. Always a good reminder that we share these woods with some incredible native wildlife.

Timber rattlesnakes are a venomous pit viper species found throughout much of the eastern United States. They play an important role in the ecosystem by helping control rodent populations. Despite their reputation, they’re generally calm and prefer to avoid people often relying on camouflage and staying still rather than striking.

If you’re out hiking or working in the woods:
• Watch where you step and place your hands
• Give snakes plenty of space
• Never try to handle or harass them

Respect wildlife, stay aware, and enjoy the outdoors safely.
