Earlier this week, Carterville Area Rotary club president Krissy Stokes, along with Mayor Brad Robinson, presented members of the city work maintenance staff with gift cards to recognize their work in recent weeks given infrastructure repairs. These workers have put in long hours to get customers’ service back and this was a show of appreciation for their efforts!

Come join us at 7:30 am this Wednesday at Crab Orchard Golf Club and learn about a new program based out of Marion, which supports veterans in our area.

Tom Harness is Superintendent of the Williamson County Veterans Assistance Commission (WCVAC), connecting local veterans and their families with benefits, emergency aid, resources, and advocacy. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a Tactical Satellite Communications Specialist in the Signal Corps, with assignments in South Korea and Saudi Arabia.

Today, Tom focuses on strengthening partnerships among organizations, businesses, agencies, and community leaders serving veterans in Williamson County and Southern Illinois. As WCVAC Superintendent, he works to expand outreach, improve access to benefits, build partnerships, and help veterans and their families find support.

This Wednesday at 7:30 am at Crab Orchard Golf Club, we welcome Carterville Police Chief Kendall Hollister to our club as your meeting speaker. He'll share updates as it relates to the police department.

Tuesday, 8/4 is Carterville's National Night Out event at Cannon Park from 6-8 pm. We'll be set up behind the community center and be handing out ice cream to attendees. Come say hi as we participate in this fun community engagement event!

Thanks to all who attended the Texas Roadhouse fundraiser last week, in support of our Alzheimer's Walk team. Mark October 3 on your calendar so you can join us at 9 am at JALC for the walk event.

This Wednesday, we welcome a representative from the Southern Illinois Community Foundation as our speaker. Their vision is to engage the people of southern Illinois in building a tradition of philanthropy & are committed to creating an opportunity for donors to participate in local community development efforts to address the changing needs of our community through charitable giving. Come learn about the work they are doing for organizations across the region!

Our July social will be held this Wednesday, July 29, at 6:00 pm at the Texas Roadhouse in Marion located at 2800 W DeYoung Street in Marion. From 3-10 pm, they will be donating 10% of the total food purchases to our club, which we will then donate to the Alzheimer's Foundation. This is a great fundraising opportunity, so please share this information with your friends, neighbors, and co-workers. I have attached the flyers for this fundraising event. Please share this flyer with others and be sure to bring the flyer with you as it will be needed to activate the 10% donation. You can also show a digital version on your phone.

This Wednesday, 7/22, our club welcomes SIU Athletic Director Tim Leonard as our speaker. AD Leonard will share upcoming expectations for teams this year, beginning with football. Come with your questions and SIU apparel is always welcome!

We were honored to welcome our District Governor, Libby Quinlan, to the Carterville Area Rotary Club this week!

Libby shared exciting updates from around our Rotary District and reminded us of the incredible impact Rotary clubs make every day. From serving our local communities to supporting humanitarian projects around the world, it’s inspiring to see how people working together can truly make a difference.

Thank you, Libby, for your leadership, encouragement, and for taking the time to visit our club. We appreciate all you do to strengthen Rotary and help us continue living out our motto, Service Above Self.

Thank you to the Rotarians, Navy reserve students and community members who helped clean up and make repairs at the Bark Park on Saturday. Your work is appreciated to keep this community asset in great shape for all who use it!
