Public Apology and Statement
We would like to sincerely apologize to anyone affected by the issues that occurred during last night's severe weather event.
Our members worked diligently throughout the storm to provide the best service and support possible under rapidly changing conditions. Unfortunately, several factors beyond our direct control contributed to challenges that impacted our response efforts.
As part of our partnership with the city, we have the capability to assist with activating the warning sirens. Additionally, the shelters are designed to automatically unlock when the sirens are sounded. However, that system did not function as intended last night. We were not made aware of the shelter access failure until the storm was already impacting our area, which significantly limited our ability to address the issue before residents were affected.
We understand the frustration and concern this caused, and we take those concerns seriously. While we cannot control every aspect of the warning and shelter systems, we remain committed to working with city officials to identify what went wrong, improve communication, and help ensure these systems function properly in future emergencies.
We appreciate the patience, understanding, and support of our community as we continue to evaluate the event and make improvements where needed. Our priority has always been, and will continue to be, the safety and well-being of those we serve.
