As temperatures drop, we want to help community cats that need a safe place to escape the cold. We are hosting a STYROFOAM SHELTER DRIVE, and you can help us turn styrofoam coolers into shelters for the cats!
✨ HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP!
🐾DONATE A STYROFOAM COOLER!
Drop off clean Styrofoam coolers at the Cartersville PetSmart! Just let a staff member know your donation is for The Cats Meow Rescue, and they’ll place it in our cat room.
🏠 WANT TO BUILD A SHELTER YOURSELF? HERE’S HOW!
🐾 Step 1: Start with a large Styrofoam cooler with a lid.
✂️ Step 2: Carefully cut an entrance 6 inches from the bottom, approximately 6x6 inches. An elevated entrance keeps moisture out! Use duct tape to keep the entry hole to prevent any sharp edges that could hurt a cat.
🌾 Step 3: Add a layer of STRAW — NOT HAY! Straw helps insulate the shelter and repels moisture, while hay can absorb moisture and leave kitties cold.
📦 Step 4: Secure the lid with duct tape to keep cold air and moisture out.
📍 Step 5: Place the finished shelter somewhere protected from wind and rain, such as under a porch or beside a building. Elevating it off the ground can help keep it dry!
🐾 EVERY COOLER CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! These simple shelters help outdoor cats retain body heat and find refuge when temperatures drop.
