Carter Lake Boys & Girls Club The Carter Lake Unit serves more than 600 members each year and has a history rich in tradition and excellence.

The Club includes a 21st Century Learning that focuses on academic success of all members throught the school year. Located on 35 acres of forest land in Carter Lake, IA, the Carter Lake Unit also offers a summer day camp experience to Metro youth each year called Camp Nakomis. At camp, members take part in fishing, archery, canoeing, arts, and outdoor skills education.

Today we took time to celebrate all of our June birthdays with a sweet treatโ€”birthday cake ice cream! ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฅณ

Thereโ€™s nothing better than gathering together to recognize our Club members and make them feel special on their birthday month. From smiles and laughter to plenty of sprinkles, it was a fun way to celebrate the amazing young people who make our Club such a great place to be.

Book Buddies has made its way to the Carter Lake Club, and we couldnโ€™t be more excited! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’™ Our teens are stepping into leadership roles by spending time with our youngest members, the Cadetsโ€”reading together and creating fun activities inspired by each book.

Itโ€™s amazing to see these connections grow as stories come to life through creativity, laughter, and shared experiences. We love watching our teens mentor and inspire while building a love of reading with our Cadets. This program has quickly become a favoriteโ€”we love this! โœจ

Our teens took on an exciting challenge at NorthStar Adventure during their High Ropes & Team Development Course! ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ’ช

From the very first climb, they pushed past fears, stepped outside their comfort zones, and tried so many new things.

Each obstacle brought new opportunities to build trust, support one another, and grow strongerโ€”both individually and as a team. Watching their confidence soar (sometimes literally!) was incredible to see.

We are so proud of their courage, determination, and teamworkโ€”what an unforgettable experience!

We kicked off our cooking club, Whisk Takers, and itโ€™s already off to a delicious start! ๐ŸŽ‰ Our teens and cadets teamed up in the kitchen to try a little baking funโ€”they made funfetti cupcakes from scratch!

From mixing ingredients to decorating, everyone had a hand in the process, and they even made their own icing. The teamwork, creativity, and smiles made it such a great experience for all involved.

Weโ€™re so excited to keep cooking (and tasting!) togetherโ€”this is just the beginning for Whisk Takers! ๐Ÿงโœจ

Last weekโ€™s Wildlife Safari Park field trip was an absolute blast! From the moment we arrived, excitement was everywhereโ€”especially when the group broke into chants of โ€œBISON, BISON!โ€ as we spotted them up close.

We put our photography skills to the test, capturing some amazing shots of the American elk and pelicans, and even managed to snap pictures of bears climbing treesโ€”definitely a highlight! The Dinosaur exhibit was also a huge hit and added an extra layer of fun and discovery to the day.

So many great moments, lots of learning, and even more smilesโ€”what a fantastic day!
