On Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 7:00 a.m., Wá:šiw Zulšiš Gúm T’anu and Arigun Dalai Union—Hereditary Guardians of Lake Baikal will gather at Dá’aw’á:ga’a (edge of the lake) in keeping with our historic agreement. Together, we will stand in solidarity for the protection and healing of our sister lakes internationally, and offer prayer for the healing of the land, the water, and the people.
The agreement recognizes the Wá:šiw and Buryat peoples as traditional lake peoples connected by shared understandings of water, stewardship, ancestral responsibility, ceremony, and the sacred relationship between people and place.
We invite everyone throughout the Tahoe Basin and beyond to join us from wherever you are on October 11. At 7:00 a.m. Pacific time, to pause and offer a prayer in your own way for Dáʔawʔá:gaʔa. If you are near Tahoe, we invite you to stand with us Dáʔawʔá:gaʔa, along withour Buryat relations as we offer prayer for our homelands, for the center of our world, for our communities, and for our future generations–however it is that you pray.
Dáʔawʔá:gaʔa and Baigal Dalai’ are sister lakes. Through the agreement and its renewal, we continue our commitment to prayer, cultural exchange, mutual support, and the care of our respective waters and homelands.
