Actor Richard Gere took part in a social experiment by disguising himself as a homeless person, and it turned out to be a profound experience. He shared, "I dressed up as a homeless person, and no one noticed. People walked past me, looking at me with disgust.

Only one kind lady offered me food. The experience was truly eye-opening.

We often forget to appreciate what we have and how fortunate we are. If we can help someone, we should do it without hesitation. That’s why I wanted to do this experiment.

Afterward, I drove around town, handing out food and giving $100 to every homeless person I met. Their tears of gratitude were overwhelming.

Be the change you want to see today."

🌍 It's time to turn our attention to living more sustainably, and ABC News is leading the way with "The Power of Us: People, The Climate, and Our Future." In the stunning backdrop of Taos, near the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, there's a community that's redefining green living. 🏡

These aren't just any homes; they're Earthships — off-the-grid marvels made largely from recycled materials. Imagine powering your life with the sun and wind, growing food right in your living room, and using the same water that just cleaned you to nourish your plants and flush your toilets. 🌱💦

ABC News' Ginger Zee, with Dan Manzo and Lindsey Griswold, immersed themselves in this community to bring us insights on eco-friendly living. They're not just talking the talk; they've lived in an Earthship to share a firsthand experience. 📺

Buildings are among the top greenhouse gas emitters, but these Earthships stand as a testament to a cleaner, self-sustained life, utilizing materials like old tires and glass bottles for construction. With Earthship Biotecture's Michael Reynolds guiding the way, the future of sustainable living is not only possible; it's already here.

Let's take this inspiration from Taos and consider how we can integrate these principles into our own lives. Every step toward sustainability is a step towards a healthier planet. 🌿

To catch all the details and get inspired, tune in to ABC News' series. Who knows? This might just be the nudge we need to make those eco-friendly changes in our own homes! 📺✨

In Taos, New Mexico, ABC News' Ginger Zee visits a community made of Earthships, a type of off-the-grid housing development aimed at sustainability.

🚨 Food Inequality Alert! 📈 Recent stats show grocery prices soaring, spotlighting the harsh realities of food access in the US.

🌱 Act Locally: Urban farms and markets can bring fresh, affordable food straight to our neighborhoods, strengthen economies, and open access roads to nutrition (NRDC, Brookings).

📊 Push Nationally: It’s time to bolster federal food aid programs and fight for fair wages. Policies like the Raise the Wage Act are pivotal in our fight against poverty (USAFacts, Economic Policy Institute).

🤝 Embrace Inclusivity: We’re here for solutions that reflect our diverse communities. Elevating all voices is key to shaping fair food policies (First Step Alliance).

📘 Empower Through Education: Knowledge ignites change. We’re dedicated to spreading awareness and driving advocacy for food justice (Learning for Justice).

Let’s unite our efforts and create a just food system. Every action, every voice matters.

Join the movement. Make a difference.

🚨Tackling Food Inequality:
From Your Neighborhood to the Nation

In our mission to combat food insecurity and promote social justice, recent data highlighting the most expensive states for groceries presents both a challenge and a call to action. The disparity in food costs across the states is a stark illustration of the wider inequalities that affect access to nutritious, affordable food.

📣Local Action for Immediate Impact

Community solutions are powerful. Engaging with local governments to support community gardens and farmers' markets not only provides fresh produce but also strengthens local economies (NRDC). Improved transportation services could significantly boost access to these resources (Brookings). Moreover, engaging in community-driven food asset mapping could reveal and optimize local food landscapes (Brookings).

💥Federal Advocacy for Systemic Change

On a larger scale, we must urge for enhancement of federal nutrition assistance programs like SNAP and WIC, which are lifelines for many but require adaptation to the current economic reality (USAFacts). Addressing wage inequality through legislation like the Raise the Wage Act of 2023 is also critical, as it stands to lift countless Americans out of poverty (Economic Policy Institute).

✊🏽Inclusivity in Solutions

We champion equity, diversity, and participation, recognizing the need for solutions that cater to the unique needs of diverse communities (First Step Alliance). It's crucial to amplify marginalized voices, ensuring they're not only heard but are active participants in shaping the policies that affect their lives.

📚Educating for Empowerment

Knowledge is power. We're committed to educating individuals on the interconnectedness of these issues and equipping them with the tools for advocacy and action (Learning for Justice).

By learning from successful social justice movements in other sectors, we can collectively forge a pathway to a more equitable and sustainable food system. Let’s unite in action from the ground up—because when it comes to hunger, every meal, every voice, and every policy counts.

Your support, your voice, and your actions can make a difference. Join us in this critical mission.
