Stepping Up for Local History: Andrea and Walter Hobbs Make Second Major Donation to Carson City Historical Society
Carson City, NV — The Carson City Historical Society is proud to announce a generous $5,000 contribution from longtime supporters and volunteers Andrea and Walter Hobbs — marking the second consecutive year the couple has made a major financial gift to the organization. The Hobbses also contributed $5,000 to the Historical Society last year.
Their continued generosity comes at an especially meaningful time for the organization. As an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to preserving and sharing Carson City’s history, the Carson City Historical Society recently lost a City grant that had helped support operations and programming at the historic Foreman-Roberts House Museum.
“Support like this truly helps keep the lights on,” said Liz Cain, President of the Carson City Historical Society. “Their generosity means more than we can express, especially during a challenging year financially for the organization.”
After moving to Carson City several years ago and falling in love with the community and its rich history, the Hobbses became deeply involved in supporting the Historical Society and its mission.
Walter Hobbs previously worked as a systems programmer for the Rand Corporation in Santa Monica, California. Andrea Hobbs enjoyed a distinguished 35-year career as a graphic designer and instructor at Santa Monica College, while also working as a consultant in the field. Her creative talents and passion for local history have been instrumental in several Carson City Historical Society projects, including If These Gowns Could Talk and Carson City’s Women of Distinction, among others.
In addition to their financial generosity, the Hobbses have long been dedicated volunteers and advocates for the organization. Their ongoing involvement, particularly with the Foreman-Roberts House Museum, has inspired greater community engagement and fostered a deeper appreciation for local history.
“Their passion and commitment have made a lasting impact,” Cain added. “We are profoundly grateful for their support and enduring friendship.”
The Carson City Historical Society continues to rely heavily on community donations, memberships, volunteers, and fundraising events to operate the Foreman-Roberts House Museum and present educational programs, lectures, tours, teas, and community events throughout the year.
