Dear Friends,
Welcome to Dhamma Mind Science (DMS), a community dedicated to exploring the intersection of the Buddha's teachings with the modern sciences of consciousness studies, neuroscience, philosophy, cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, social psychology, developmental psychology, and physics. Our focus is on professional and academic research into these areas as they apply to the
wisdom and insights of the Buddha's teachings in the Pali texts. Dhamma Mind Science is a production of the Panna Foundation for Dhamma Studies, a Nevada non-profit organization that is dedicated to both exploring the teachings of the Buddha and how they relate to the modern sciences. Our model is designed to bring together people whose areas of research may benefit from the Buddha’s teachings or that overlap with the foundations of the Dhamma. At present, being a non-profit organization, we are negotiating with various providers, such as Google, WordPress, Wix, and others to provide us with as cost-effective a website solution for our domain name dhammamindscience.org as possible. Our group is designed to publish, promote, and encourage academic discussion within these areas. We understand and have compassion for researchers who may not meet the exacting qualifications for acceptance of their papers by mainstream journals or academic publications. We hope that the Dhamma Mind Science platform fills that gap where serious researchers can publish their work thus providing not only exposure, but a place where peer review is encouraged. Membership to this group is restricted to academic students, professionals, researchers, scientists, various publishers, researchers of the Pali texts, and ordained individuals within the Theravada school. If you are considering becoming a member of DMS, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our Intellectual Property Policy, Membership Policy, and Community Guidelines. Papers submitted to Dhamma Mind Science should follow the general guidelines for submission of academic papers as follows:
• Formatting: Academic papers are typically formatted in accordance with a specific style guide, such as APA, MLA, or Chicago. These style guides provide guidelines for how to format citations, references, headings, margins, and other elements of the paper.
• Language and style: Academic papers are typically written in a formal, objective style, using clear and concise language. The writing should be free from grammatical errors and typos, and should be organized and coherent.
• Research methodology: Academic papers should clearly describe the research methodology used, including any data collection methods, sampling techniques, and statistical analyses.
• Citations and references: Academic papers should include proper citations for all sources used in the paper, using the appropriate citation style. The reference list should include all sources cited in the paper, arranged in alphabetical order.
• Peer review: Academic papers are typically subject to peer review, in which experts in the field review the paper for accuracy, relevance, and quality. The peer review process can vary depending on the discipline and publisher, but typically involves blind review, in which the reviewer does not know the identity of the author.
• Ethics and integrity: Academic papers should adhere to high ethical standards, including honesty, accuracy, and transparency. Any potential conflicts of interest should be disclosed, and any ethical concerns should be addressed. We also welcome and encourage authors seeking peer review of their work to submit their papers here. It is our hope that we can use the Facebook platform to bring together researchers interested in the relationship between the Buddha Dhamma and the fields of psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and consciousness studies. All submissions are not placed directly on Facebook but contain links to the Dhamma Mind Sciences sites on Academia.edu, ResearchGate, and the Internet Archive. We believe that these ancient teachings offer a unique perspective on the human mind and can provide valuable insights into the nature of consciousness, perception, and behavior. Our goal is to bring together a community of researchers and practitioners interested in exploring this rich and fascinating area of inquiry and to share our collective knowledge and expertise with one another. At Dhamma Mind Science, we take a rigorous and evidence-based approach to our investigations while also remaining open and receptive to the wisdom of the Buddha. We believe that by combining these two perspectives, we can deepen our understanding of the human mind and behavior and ultimately help to promote greater well-being and insight into the human mind. We invite you to join us on this journey of discovery and exploration, and we wholeheartedly encourage lively discussion. Whether you are a seasoned researcher or a curious student, we welcome you to contribute your ideas, insights, and questions to our community. Let's work together to uncover the secrets of the mind and to deepen our understanding of the timeless teachings of the Buddha. With gratitude and enthusiasm,
