The Carroll County Arts Board will present a free concert featuring the Carroll County Middle and High School bands on Friday, May 15 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse square. Downtown Carrollton restaurants will donate 10% of their sales from 4 p.m. until closing as a fundraiser for the Carroll County Band Boosters. The event is in celebration of Kentucky’s 234th birthday.
Arts board member and event organizer Cathy Gilbert explained that the Arts Board started out with the idea of having the middle and high school bands perform on the courthouse square, “but we didn’t exactly want the theme of the country’s 250th anniversary that will be used by many events, and since the Commonwealth became the 15th U. S. state on June 1, 1792, we decided, instead, to celebrate Kentucky’s 234th birthday a little early.” The bands will perform a variety of songs including “My Old Kentucky Home,” and Gilbert added that at the conclusion of the concert, “We will all sing happy birthday to Kentucky!”
As a fundraiser for the bands, on May 15 from 4 p.m. until closing, these downtown Carrollton restaurants will donate 10% of all sales to the Carroll County Band Boosters: Welch’s Riverside, Papi’s Mex Grill, Boscoe’s Snack Shack, Buzzinga Coffee, Con Tokyo Chamoy, La Oaxaquena /Carniceria/Fruteria, and Tam Sushi and Pho.
Gilbert said there will be picnic tables and bleachers on the courthouse lawn, and that everyone who attends the concert can also visit any of the downtown restaurants to dine in or carry out dinner; some restaurants will have outdoor seating in front of their businesses as well. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs. For further information, please visit the Carroll County Arts Board on Facebook.
