Meet Pixie and Yard Stick, the newest pups in Mazie’s Mission’s care.

Rescued from a hoarding situation, these little ones are carrying old injuries that need attention. Pixie has an injury to her eye, and Yard Stick has a leg injury that will require surgical amputation in addition to spay and updated vaccines.

We’re so grateful for the veterinary team at Mazie’s Mission, who meet cases like these with compassion, expertise, and a commitment to giving every animal the care they deserve. Their work makes second chances possible, especially for the animals who need us most.

But that care comes at a cost.

UPDATE: Izzie has been adopted!

Apparently, Izzy has called an emergency meeting.

She is adorable.

She is ready for her forever home.

She has several additional thoughts on the matter.

This playful, happy girl is ready to trade her foster home for a forever home. She’s great with dogs, loves people of all ages, is potty trained, and has plenty to say about her future plans.

✨ OCTOBER MANIFESTATIONS ✨

We’re manifesting something very specific this month…

Forever homes for the animals who have been waiting a little too long.
For Gracie, we’re manifesting a family who appreciates her chill-girl vibes and thinks rolling around in the grass is a perfectly good way to spend an afternoon.

For Izzie, we’re manifesting a family ready for a happy, playful girl who thinks walks, fetch, water hoses, and a good roll in the grass are the best things ever.

For Ebbi, we’re manifesting someone who sees her, chooses her, and knows that the best dogs aren’t always the ones who get noticed first.

For Baker, we’re manifesting sunshine, a forever family, and maybe a pool day or two.

For Whiskers, we’re manifesting a home that is ready for a big purr motor, a professional snuggler, and one seriously adorable loaf.

And for Gunner, we’re manifesting a family who can appreciate a 95% perfectly behaved gentleman, a 5% stubborn streak, and approximately 100% worth-it kind of dog.

These six have been waiting. They’ve been loved, cared for, and cheering on the animals who came after them.

Now it’s their turn.

We are saddened to share that our sweet little Ronan has passed away. At just one pound, Ronan was found on the side of the road with a head injury. Last week, while he was initially doing well, he suddenly became lethargic and would not eat. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after.

As a medical rescue, we know the risk of heartbreak that comes with each of the challenging cases we take on, but we owe it to each of them to give them the best chance. We will all miss this sweet little guy so very much.

Think you couldn’t foster a heartworm-positive dog? We want to change your mind.

Heartworm is serious, and treatment does require some important restrictions—especially keeping dogs calm and limiting activity while they recover. But what does that actually look like for a foster?

For Minnie, it looks a lot like snuggling, eating snacks, taking naps, and chilling. 🥰

And “keeping them calm” doesn’t have to mean boring! You can make enrichment part of the recovery routine—think stuffed Kongs, lick mats, puzzle toys, and treats that can be prepared ahead of time and frozen so you always have something ready when your foster needs a little entertainment.

Basically, heartworm recovery can look a lot like:

Snack prep → enrichment → snuggles → nap → repeat.

Heartworm is unfortunately very common in North Texas, and the Mazie’s Mission clinic team takes care of the medical side. They guide the foster through the treatment process and make sure these dogs get the care they need.

What we need from fosters is a safe, loving place for dogs like Minnie to rest, recover, decompress, and remember that life is pretty great. Hey Maybe it will help you slow down and enjoy the day also!
