🚨What to Do in a Battery Emergency!🚨

Lithium-ion battery fires don't smolder like traditional wood or paper fires, they can escalate into intense heat and release toxic gases almost instantly due to a process called thermal runaway. Knowing how to react in those critical first seconds protects your family and your property.

Master these emergency steps:

🛑 Evacuate Immediately: If you hear hissing, popping, or crackling sounds, or see sudden swelling, heavy smoke, or strange chemical odors, get everyone away from the device or battery right away.

🚪 Close the Door: As you leave, close the door behind you. This simple action traps dense, toxic smoke and slows the spread of fire through your home or garage.

📞 Call 911: Dial emergency services right away. Be sure to tell the dispatcher that a lithium-ion battery or rechargeable device is involved so our Carroll County first responders know what to expect.

❌ Never Fight Large Fires Yourself: Do not try to move a hot, smoking, or actively burning e-bike, scooter, or large tool battery pack. Leave the heavy intervention to professional firefighters with specialized gear.

⚠️ Know the Limits: Portable extinguishers or home methods only buy time to escape. Do not attempt to use water on large commercial batteries, as it can cause further dangerous chemical reactions.

Now is a great time to clean up your closets and attics and get rid of:
📱 cell and smartphones
📠 analog phones, fax machines,
💻 computers, laptops, notebooks, Chromebooks
⌨️ computer accessories: keyboards, speakers (no wood-cased speakers will be accepted)
🖨 printers!
🔌 all the cables, yes, all of them!
🖥 we don't know what this is but if it is processing data, we will take it
📷🎥 cameras, camcorders, video cameras
📻 radios, cassette players, cd&dvd players, small speakers (again, no wood-cased speakers accepted)
📺 TVs - CRT, LCD, LED - no console or wood-cased TVs will be accepted
🔋 batteries! (with the exception of power tool batteries - those can be taken to any Home Depot or Lowes store)
We do not accept:
❌ large appliances
❌ small appliances: blenders, mixers, microwaves
❌ vacuums
❌ lamps of any type
❌ fans
❌ personal grooming items (hair driers, clippers, razors, curling irons)
❌ power tools
❌ thermostats and electric thermometers (save those for Tired of Tires/Household Hazardous Waste/Paper Shredding)
❌ trash or any other recycling

📢 Questions about passes for the convenience centers? Check this Carroll County, GA post for more details!

👉 Passes will be REQUIRED starting January 1, 2027.
👉 You can purchase them for $50/year (or $25 for residents over 65-years old) starting 10/1/2026.

Passes will be required to access ALL SERVICES, including the recycling bins.

CONVENIENCE CENTER PASSES GO ON SALE OCTOBER 1!

Beginning October 1, 2026, Carroll County residents can purchase their 2027 Convenience Center Pass.

📣 IMPORTANT: You do NOT need a pass to use the Convenience Centers until January 1, 2027.

We are opening sales three months early to give those who wish to utilize the convenience centers plenty of time to purchase their pass before the new year.

• $50 per household
• $25 senior rate (65 years +)

🏠 WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Convenience Center Passes are available to Carroll County residents. Please provide:

• A photo ID showing a Carroll County address, OR
• A photo ID plus a current utility bill showing your Carroll County residence

📅 October 1, 2026: Passes available for purchase
📅 January 1, 2027: Pass required to use Carroll County Convenience Centers

There is no need to rush on October 1! Residents will have three full months to purchase their pass before it is required.

This is such a great cause: PALS Animal Alliance is unveiling The Fix - a mobile spay/neuter clinic on wheels! The ribbon cutting ceremony is happening at 11:00 a.m., September 16, at Bark on Bradley dog park, (306 Bradley St). That is right across from the Southeastern Quilt Museum and... the KCB office! :D

We cannot wait!

Residents will have an opportunity to safely dispose of difficult-to-recycle materials during a free two-in-one recycling event hosted by Keep Carroll Beautiful on Saturday, May 16. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Midway Church, located at 1 Midway Church Drive in Villa Rica.

The event will focus on collecting household hazardous waste items and providing secure paper shredding services for local households. Organizers said the event is designed to help residents properly dispose of items that are not easily recycled through traditional local programs.
