Tomorrow is the six year anniversary of Shantel’s passing. You are thought about, and talked about, every single day. You are missed by so many people, in so many places.

You were the glue that kept us all together for birthdays, holidays, and just great get togethers.
To say we miss you is an understatement.

Happy Heavenly Birthday to our sweet friend, Shantel Lanerie. You are so missed by everyone, and we hope you’re happy with the progress of the Shantel Lanerie Breast Cancer Foundation.

We all talk about you every day, and can’t believe you’ve been gone almost six years. Keep watching over Brittlyn, cuz she’s doing great, and keep your arms wrapped around your mom and dad.

Yesterday was another great day for the Shantel Lanerie Breast Cancer Foundation. We raised some needed funds to help women with the various stages of breast cancer.
Jockey Corey Lanerie , husband of the late Shantel, was aboard the winner, Free Like A Girl, of the stake named for his wife for the second year in a row. Last year he won it on a filly named Nosilverspoonshere.
Shantel’s dad, Riley Hebert, who works tirelessly for his daughter’s foundation, drew the winning ticket at the finish line on Fair Grounds live tv after the race.
The winning ticket belonged to Mike Melancon of Lafayette, who purchased 10 tickets to improve his chances of winning. As you can see, his strategy worked out.

This Sunday is closing day at the Fair Grounds. It’s also Shantel Lanerie Breast Cancer “Day At The Races”. Post time for the first race is at 11:00 a.m., and there are 15 races scheduled for the final card.

The Shantel Lanerie Memorial Stakes has been carded as the finale, with a 6:00 p.m. post time. After the race is made official, we will have a live drawing for a winner of the 2024 Kentucky Oaks / Kentucky Derby Experience Raffle.

The winner will receive reserved box seating, food and alcohol, and parking for both Oaks and Derby days. A three-night stay at the nearby Wyndham Suites is also part of the package. Airfare is NOT included in this Experience.

Tickets are $125 each, and are still available, and will be available for purchase, until the Shantel Lanerie Memorial Stakes is run.

You can purchase tickets, and take part in the SLBCF Fundraiser, by visiting the Big White Tent, outside the racing office, in the grandstand. We’ll have a number of auction items, plus hats, t-shirts, and other SLBCF items for purchase. In addition, the Southern Voice Band will be performing from 12:00 noon - 4:00 p.m.

THE FUNDRAISER IS FREE ADMISSION AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
