Job description:
2025/10/15 Admissions Coordinator Job Posting
Caramore is a nonprofit that has been operating in Carrboro and Chapel Hill for over 50 years. We are structured support program that supports adults with mental illness to establish stable employment and independence. We’re provide supportive, stimulating, and normalized real-world settings where individuals can master the skills to live the life they choose. We promote wellness, self-efficacy, and development of the skills needed to live and work in the community.
Caramore coordinates mental health treatment with local clinical providers and offers a transitional work and housing program where individuals attain successful employment, suitable housing, financial stability, and achieve independent living. Mental illness can entail cognitive, emotional, and interpersonal impairments that can hinder the ability to live the life one chooses. Our rehabilitative setting, including socialization and employment, works to amend those impairments and behaviors through concentration on daily living skills, medication management, food and nutrition, health and hygiene, and social interaction. Our 9-month program strives to support the individual to meet their own particular needs.
Work is an important component of our identity, and so it is with Caramore clients. Caramore clients begin training for a real job on the very first day that they enter the program. Incremental progress through the program develops disciplined and hardworking employees who feel good about themselves, are defined less by their illness and more by their vocation, and are imbued with confidence to pursue their goals.
Many Caramore participants also find Peer Support Services to be a valuable support in achieving varied goals and practicing self-advocacy. Provided by mentors with lived experience in recovery from mental illness or addiction, Peer Support offers several hours per week of direct, individual assistance with practical goals.
Caramore hopes that working to reduce misunderstanding and stigma attached to mental illness will improve the recovery process. Environment matters. Nobody wants to be sick, but people can get better and do get better. Caramore can be part of this process of recovery. Recovery includes making decisions to pursue goals that support wellness and stability and taking measurable action towards those goals. Inside the supportive structure of Caramore, risks can be taken; smaller mistakes and miscues absorbed, larger mistakes avoided, and a new life can start. Caramore is hope, action, and progress.
