Hello, I’m April Mills and I’m running for Carrboro town council to bring a collaborative and informed perspective that’s different from the status quo. Carrboro is at a pivotal point in it’s evolution and I know we can find solutions to our greatest challenges by including voices from all of Carrboro’s neighborhoods
My vision for Carrboro is climate resiliency and more equitable outcomes by focu
sing on Community and Infrastructure. An example of preparing for climate resiliency and equitable outcomes is taking a bird’s eye view on stormwater across Carrboro. It might not sound sexy but it should be central to the planning process since extreme storms are now the “new normal”. Many people in Carrboro are already experiencing flooding and it’s only going to get worse if we don’t address it holistically now. There are ways we could be protecting Carrboro’s current and future residents and I'd like to get started! I want to make equitable improvements in our community through infrastructure like public transportation and parks & recreation. This includes better connectivity, safer transportation, and enhanced accessibility for all residents. I don’t like seeing families waiting for a bus in a ditch with a sign. We must expand our bus system, add new routes to include neighborhoods in North Carrboro, add bus rapid transit, and improve all bus stops with consistent infrastructure and design. I want to make sure traffic in neighborhoods is safe, and that infrastructure encourages walking and cycling. We all want to improve housing affordability. Multiple approaches must be achieved to help with the future growth of the Triangle. I’m bringing a perspective that is always being updated by my ongoing efforts to learn and collaborate across the state and beyond. I also have children in the CHCCS system and know how important that is to our economy and community. I hope to get to work on the Carrboro Council for you!
