“This was more than a cooking class. It was a space for healing, connection, and growth.” — Terence Johnson, Executive Director

This spring, RSN partnered with Mel’s Commissary & Catering to serve up a recipe for wellness.
Nine youth completed a 5-week culinary program that didn’t just teach cooking — it cultivated confidence, community, and care.

Al and Mel opened their kitchen, hearts, and resources — to nurture the next generation. And the results? A table full of smiles, gratitude, and stories we’ll never forget.

💬 Stay tuned for more quotes and reflections as we prepare to cook up something big on June 29!

While you may not see this board member on social media – she’s no less important to spotlight❣️

Dr. Chris McQuiston, kindly known as Matt’s Mom, focused her academic career working collaboratively with the Latino community in Durham, NC through Participatory Action Research to build community capacity and culture-specific HIV/AIDS prevention strategies. Her interest in culture-specific care arose from her experiences providing care as a Public Health Nurse and a Family Nurse Practitioner to primarily Urban Appalachians and African Americans respectively. After she received her PhD in Nursing from Wayne State University in 1993 she moved with her family to Chapel Hill, NC and began teaching and research at the University of North Carolina School of Nursing in the Department of Community Health. During her 13 years with the University, Chris received numerous awards and research grants. She remains concerned about Latino immigrants and is currently networking with local churches to address pressing issues affecting immigrants. Chris’ joining the board reflects a natural deepening of a larger commitment to RSN. Along with her husband, Tom, Chris co-founded RSN after the tragic loss of their son, 18-year-old Matt McQuiston to a drug overdose.

We are so humbled by Chris and Tom’s leadership of RSN. Join us in thanking them for their contributions to our community – give this post your thumbs up! 👍

Today, we remember.
At Reintegration Support Network, we pause to honor and remember the brave souls who paid the ultimate price for our freedoms.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend—it’s a moment to reflect on courage, sacrifice, and the unyielding spirit of service that shapes our nation. As we support youth on their journey of reintegration and purpose, we draw inspiration from those who gave all.

May we live lives worthy of their legacy.

We remember. We honor. We serve.
