Our Carpinteria Lions Club is always on the move — serving our community, staying busy, and having a great time doing it!

At our recent meeting, we enjoyed dinner, caught up with one another, and discussed the many activities and service projects coming up over the next several weeks. We also signed up volunteers to help support the events and programs that make a difference in our community.

Between now and the end of June and into July, our club will be:

• Installing our 99th group of club officers
• Hosting the famous Carpinteria Lions Club 4th of July BBQ Celebration
• Supporting the annual Rods & Roses event in downtown Carpinteria
• Providing volunteers for private BBQ events
• Organizing workdays to renovate the tables and benches at Lions Park

Our members donate thousands of volunteer hours each year in service to our community and to the many causes we support. It’s amazing what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared commitment to helping others.

This evening, members of the Carpinteria Lions Club had the privilege of supporting Enchanted Evening – Carpinteria Gala, the annual fundraising event benefiting the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County’s Carpinteria Club.

The gala raises vital funds to support local youth programs, including after-school activities, mentorship, academic support, and providing a safe and welcoming place for children and teens in our community.

In addition to attending the event, several Carpinteria Lions volunteered their time to help serve guests throughout the silent auction and gala festivities. Supporting organizations that invest in the future of our community is a natural extension of our Lions mission: We Serve.

A special thank you to Lions Hannah Jones, Mike Andrade, Larry Clements, Dr. Ron DeSandre, and Past President David Hayman for rolling up their sleeves and contributing throughout the evening.

It was inspiring to see so many community members come together in support of such a worthy cause. We are proud to play a small part in helping make a positive difference for the children and families of Carpinteria.

Part of being a Lions Club member is having the opportunity to visit—and be visited by—other Lions clubs!

This week, our Carpinteria Lions Club had the pleasure of welcoming not one, but two visiting clubs: the ORCUTT LIONS CLUB and the GGC Lions Club - Greater Goleta Santa Barbara Lions Club.

We were honored to meet our incoming District Governor, Denise Daniels, along with Jon Hergert, President of the Greater Goleta Santa Barbara Lions Club, and the following members of both clubs:

Orcutt Lions Club

* Denise Daniels, Incoming District Governor
* Marie Thompson
* Sheri Hughes
* Elizabeth Strawn
* Paige Smith
* Carrie Corob

Greater Goleta Santa Barbara Lions Club

* Jon Hergert, President
* John Pace
* Sandy McGraw
* Toni Liquornik
* Amanda Johnston
* Drew Ponce
* Howard Hudson

Club visitations provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow Lions, learn how other clubs conduct their meetings, share ideas, and strengthen the bonds that unite us in service. They also give us the chance to meet and get to know other service-minded individuals who are making a difference in their communities.

Our club had a fantastic time hosting both clubs. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and learning more about their members, their clubs, and the great work they do.

Thank you all for taking the time to visit us. We truly appreciated your company and look forward to seeing you again soon!

This is a photo review of the Lions Club of Carpinteria's annual Memorial Day presentation at the Carpinteria Cemetery on May 25, 2026. It is a tradition we have, along with other community members, to pay homage to our fallen soldiers and respect to all who have fought in our Armed Forces.

Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

As we do every year, the Carpinteria Lions Club hosted a Memorial Day service at the Carpinteria Cemetery to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Retired Navy veteran Clyde Freeman served as our master of ceremonies.

This service is our way of expressing gratitude for the sacrifices made to protect our freedom and to honor the lives and legacy of those who served.

We are grateful to everyone who came to pay their respects and remember our fallen heroes.

Memorial Day reminds us not to take our freedoms for granted and gives us an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices that made them possible.

Thank you to all who gave everything in service to our nation.

We would also like to thank the Bob Guthrie Memorial Pipe & Drum Corps, the Carpinteria Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, the Veterans Color Guard, and Fr. Renee Haarpaintner for the invocation and for helping make this memorial service so meaningful.

Happy Memorial Day.

It’s that time of year again!!

Now that the weather is warming up and the days are getting longer, our Carpinteria Lions Club meetings have officially transitioned from inside the Lions Community Building to our outdoor BBQ area!

Being able to hold our weekly meetings outside is such a wonderful change of pace. We get to enjoy the fresh air, feel the evening breeze, and take in the beautiful sunset while spending time together.

And of course… it’s BBQ season!!!

For our first outdoor meeting of the year, our grill master Lucas perfectly prepared the first of many tri-tip dinners to come — and it was absolutely delicious!

Add in beans, a special salad, and garlic bread, and you really can’t go wrong.

It was great seeing so many of our members, and we’re all looking forward to an amazing summer ahead!

Check it out!

On behalf of the Carpinteria Lions Club, we would like to thank the Carpinteria Community Association for joining us as our final guest of the year before we transition from the Lions Park Community Center to our outdoor BBQ!

This evening, CCA Board members Karen Welty Graf, Donna Lemere, Mary Ann Colson, Lori Bowles, and our own Curtis Lopez and Clyde Freeman joined us for dinner and a wonderful presentation about the CCA and its mission.

They shared the passion behind recognizing the people, businesses, and organizations that make Carpinteria such a special community, along with the tremendous effort and care that goes into organizing their signature event — the Annual Community Awards Banquet.

It was inspiring to hear about the thoughtful process involved in selecting outstanding students, individuals, and local businesses for recognition.

As supporters and donors to their cause, it was especially meaningful to learn how their nonprofit uses funds raised to provide scholarships and support their community initiatives.

Thank you for spending the evening with us and for your continued advocacy of civic involvement, volunteerism, local history, and business excellence — all of which help celebrate and strengthen the spirit and identity of Carpinteria.

We always have fun during our weekly Thursday Carpinteria Lions Club meetings, especially when we have visitors from other local Lions clubs!!

This week Lion Norm McDaniel and Cyndee McDaniel from Ventura Downtown Lions Club and Mary-Catherine Henggeler from Camarillo Amber's Light Lions Club visited and we had an Awesome time!!

Visiting other Lions clubs and having visitors from other Lions clubs is an excellent way to meet other Lions, learn from their experiences, experience how they operate their clubs and share how we operate our club!

It’s inspiring, it’s fun and it makes us smile!!!

This evening, our Carpinteria Lions Club had the pleasure of hosting the Carpinteria Cultural Foundation as our guest.

Joining us were:

* Richard Medel – President
* Adriana Gonzalez Smith – Vice President
* Michael Damron – Board Member
* Dr. Jim Campos – Board Member

They shared how the foundation is dedicated to community-driven cultural preservation, honoring Carpinteria’s past through murals and storytelling.

They also walked us through the full series of proposed murals, giving us a firsthand look at the vision and detail behind each piece—and they are absolutely beautiful.

The foundation has been working with longtime Carpinteria artist Rick Sharp, who was commissioned to create a series of historical mural panels for the Community Plaza project. Through his work, the rich history of the Carpinteria Valley will be brought to life in a powerful and visual way.

It was inspiring to learn about the vision behind the murals - and also surprising to hear that the project is not seeking funding, but simply community support to help move it forward. These murals would be installed at no cost to the city, while enhancing and beautifying the Community Plaza.

We are hopeful that, with continued community interest and engagement, a path forward will be approved to bring this meaningful project to life for everyone to enjoy.

We appreciated the insight into their work and fully support their efforts to share Carpinteria’s story in such a lasting and impactful way.

Thank you to the Carpinteria Cultural Foundation for sharing your time and passion with us!!

It is an honor to attend the 67th Annual Carpinteria Community Association Awards Banquet, an incredible evening celebrating the people, organizations, and businesses that make Carpinteria so special. Many members of the Carpinteria Lions Club were proud to be in attendance.

This year’s theme, “Honoring the Past, Celebrating the Present,” featured recognition of the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History, Outstanding Community Business Carpinteria Valley Lumber and Garden Center, and Business Spotlight honorees Carpinteria Nails and Delgado’s Mexican Restaurant.

Twenty-one organizations presented Merit Awards for exceptional volunteerism, including our own David Hayman, who received the 2025 Carpinteria Lions Club Certificate of Merit.

Kristy Guerrero and Peter Cotte were named Educators of the Year, and three Junior Carpinterian of the Year finalists received scholarships.

The highlight of the evening was honoring Dr. Jim Campos as the 2025 Carpinterian of the Year - joining a long list of outstanding community leaders, including several past recipients who are also proud Carpinteria Lions.

The Carpinteria Lions Club is honored to play a role in supporting and recognizing the individuals who make Carpinteria thrive.
